~ Description from the official Contra: Rogue Corps website

Kaiser is a former member of the Contra task force who leaded an elite team during the Alien Wars. He is related to Commander Doyle, a secondary character who appeared in Contra: Hard Corps (although it is never explained exactly what his family tie with him is). According to the Contra: Rogue Corps Motion Comic #3, Kaiser was trained by Bill Rizer himself. The exact timeframe of this is unclear, though Kaiser seems slightly younger than before the events of Rogue Corps.

He was massively injured during the war, but fortunately, his body was successfully reconstructed and now he bears numerous cybernetics, the notable of which is a fake arm that can transform into a large cybernetic drill, which he built himself and loves more than anything in this world. After the war, he became the leader of the Rogue Corps, a skilled team of scavenging Jaegers.

While Kaiser was attending a speech the President was giving two years after the end of the war, the Damned City unexpectedly started to rise from the ground. Suspecting this was a side effect caused by the firing of the Vortex Cannon, which had not yet passed the experimental stage, the President blamed General Phoenix for this catastrophe. The general was quicker to react, though, and taking advantage of the confusion, he removed Ms. Harakiri's Muramasa blade from her belly and with it he assassinated the President.

Kaiser was one of the few people who witnessed this crime, and full of rage, he jumped at the general and quickly subdued him. However, the removal of Harakiri's blade made Gut Bucket, her alien guest, to start taking possession of her body, and believing she had something to do with everything that was going on, the security guards were about to shoot her down. Opting to save his partner rather than bringing Phoenix to the authorities, Kaiser let go off him and saved Harakiri from being executed.

Seizing the opportunity among all the chaos, Phoenix blamed Kaiser and his team for the President's murder. Now being their words against his, and seeing themselves surrounded, Kaiser and Ms. Harakiri made haste inside their carrier, the Guillotine, which was parked nearby and escaped that place, although from that day onward, he and his team were unjustly persecuted.

Eventually they confronted the General one last time. While the General was able to temporarily gain an upper hand over the team, Kaiser was able to trick the General into confessing his assassination of the President, to which Kaiser secretly recorded via a device embedded inside one of his eyes. After subduing the mutated General and narrowly ending the reign of the Damned City, Kaiser was able to use this recording to clear the team's name of any wrongdoings.

Gameplay

Kaiser starts off with a level 3 proficiency in Drill guns and Shotguns. Kaiser uses his Drill Arm as his finishing blow: he Drills the zombie straight in the gut until they are launched high into the air, and as they fall back down, he eradicates them with a powerful bionic punch.

Notes

  • Kaiser is seen as a parallel to the Hard Corps member Ray Poward, and like Ray, both he and Kaiser are, design wise, based on Bill Rizer. Of the former two, Kaiser bears the visual resemblance to Bill more closely, complete with smoking cigar. Coincidentally, both Kaiser and Bill are blamed for a murder they didn't commit.
  • Because of the aforementioned incident of the President's assassination, it is possible Kaiser may suffer from PTSD, as during one cutscene, he has a nightmare recalling said incident to which he awakes from screaming.
  • In the preview trailer for the game, he is labelled as the "Headcase". This refers to his "somewhat crazy" behavior which may be related to the aforementioned PTSD.

Trivia

  • While his real name, Max, could be just that, it could also be short for Maximilian or Maxim.
  • The name "Kaiser" rhymes with "Rizer".
  • The Lance Bean skin is the only skin where Kaiser does not have a Cigar in his mouth. His mouth posture is unchanged, however.
  • In the third Rogue Corps Motion Comic, a slightly young Kaiser can be seen being trained by Bill Rizer. Kaiser here somewhat resembles Kazuhira Miller from the Metal Gear Solid franchise (also by Konami).
