Soul Barrier

Temporarily use Mana in place of lives when bloons get past your defenses.
~ Soul Barrier
SoulBarrier

Soul Barrier is the B1 spell of Corvus's magical spells. It can be accessed via the Spellbook. It is represented with an icon that resembles Mana Shield except with dots on all four diagonals, plus overlapping lines that cross the curves of the heart.

Soul Barrier immediately generates a temporary Mana Shield to prevent live loss depending on Corvus's current mana (after factoring the cost of the spell). The size of the shield increases at Level 9 and above. It is capped at 400 lives until level 9. At level 17 the shield can be regained for up to 2000 instead of 800 (though the limit at the same time is still 800). Leaking Soul Barrier shielded lives can also activate life loss abilities such as Elite Defender’s retaliation passive ability and Bomb Blitz’s Bomb Storm passive ability. Duration of 10 seconds, cooldown of 60 seconds.

Even though In Impoppable/Chimps mode has a rule that you can't lost a single life, Soul Barrier can be used at any game mode, allowing you to survive any bloons that will leak.

It costs 40 mana to use. He unlocks it at Level 4.

Strategy

Summary

Soul Barrier helps temporarily tank a chunk of bloons if bloons try to get past the exits. Do not rely too much on this spell, but a wise usage of the spell can output the difference between life and death. Note that it lasts for a short time, and there is also a cooldown to use this spell again. Think of it like a temporary Mana Shield.

Additionally, it is wise to use it when Mana pool is fairly healthy, as doing so will start off the shield at a rather high amount. With a good enough amount of mana lives, it can also be uniquely paired with towers with life-loss passive abilities, more specifically Elite Defender and Bomb Blitz, whenever needed.

Tips

  • Soul Barrier is like a temporary Mana Shield; it blocks the loss of lives. Its usage should be treated like a mix between Soulbind's last-ditch life saving and Legend of the Night's portal passive ability; try to avoid leaking, but you can afford to leak a little during the uptime of this spell.
  • Even in No Lives Lost game modes such as Impoppable and CHIMPS, Soul Barrier is still enabled. This is because it's more of a temporary life-saving measure rather than an actual "life", unlike Mana Shield which is permanent.
    • Being the only way to feasibly activate the life-loss passive abilities of Elite Defender and Bomb Blitz in CHIMPS, Soul Barrier has a unique interaction with these two tower types for that game mode. However, Bomb Blitz generally sees more practical usage, because of the capability to wipe a screen clean of Super Ceramics and blue MOABs, whereas Elite Defender's 4x attack speed is only a temporary boost in DPS and is still prone to leaks immediately after the activation.
  • Use Soul Barrier if you think you may leak the insides of the MOAB at round 40 if you are playing Impoppable/chimps. You will have to pop the outer layer of one of the ceramics first though.
