Freebody

"Freebs, you bad-ass!"
"I ain't dead yet, Ancane.
"
Ancane and Freebody (from Aliens: Life and Death)

Freebody was a Smartgun operator with the United States Colonial Marine Corps. She was part of a 31-Marine platoon under the command of Captain Paget, aboard the combat ship Hasdrubal that landed on the planet LV-797, kick-starting a massive series of events that led to an all out battle for survival against a clan of Yautja, mutated Xenomorphs and the godlike Engineers.

Freebody was notably one of the few survivors of the disastrous operation.

Biography

Before the drop

"This isn't Lightholme. I'm looking at you. Freebody."
"Yes, ma'am.
"
Paget warning Freebody (from Predator: Life and Death)

Freebody was part of the combat ship Hasdrubal on a mission to prosecute any potential illegal prospectors on the planet, LV-797, nicknamed Tartarus. The Hasdrubal was serving the interests of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which had scheduled the planet for terraforming.

During briefing, Freebody was busy chatting with Ancane, before Paget introduced her men to Wey-Yu representative, Lorimer, and went over the mission with them. She informed them that if any pirates were encountered, they were authorized to resolve the matter peacefully, specifically reminding Freebody of her trigger-happy behavior from their prior operation in 'Lightholme'.

Exploring the planet

Upon landing on the planet, the platoon was split into two squads by Captain Paget, with Freebody manning a 'hoverbike' and accompanying Sergeant Roth's squad. After coming across a large ruin of a tractor unit, Freebody detected movement and began opening fire. Roth immediately ordered her to hold her fire, before Seegson asset-stripper Laurence Goode, emerged from the wreckage, warning the Marines that they shouldn't have come to the planet.

After the squad regrouped at a recently discovered Seegson excavation site, Goode explained that his crew were slaughtered by unknown assailants. Captain Paget ordered Roth and his squad to search for any remnants of Goode's crew. Roth split the squad up and sent Delaria to sweep the right, and Rucker, Stefopoulos, Lee and Bonito, the left.

Later, after hearing gunfire, Freebody and her squad found Rucker completely surrounded by a clan of Predators. They all opened fire, with one Predator lunging at Freebody and preparing to kill her, before being gunned down by Roth. Roth dragged Freebody to safety after the Marines had sent the hunters into a retreat.

Plan to secure the derelict

With Roth's squad reuniting with Paget, recovered survivor Melville explained to the Marines that the hunters seemed to be treating the ship as an artefact, and that they were protecting it from invaders, wishing to recover it's secrets for themselves.

Paget decided to send Roth and his team, consisting of Freebody, Wearing, Jhalil, Rucker, Singer and others into one of their drophships to fly over to the Juggernaut and secure the interior, whilst Paget's team approached the vessel by foot, attempting to sweep the forest using M314 Motion Trackers to flush out the hunters.

After being ambushed by the Cracked Tusk Predator, Roth's squad eventually patrolled the Juggernaut interior by foot, and found the cockpit. Singer suggested that he would be able to get the ship operational and have the ship leave Tartarus, and managed to lift the vessel. The Cracked Tusk Predator suddenly ambushed the squad a second time, but it was finally killed by Captain Humble after gunning it down with a Pulse rifle. With the vessel lifted, Singer planned to send it to the nearest USCM facility, Ganymede station.

Awakening the Engineer

As Singer was attempting to contact the Hasdrubal, fellow Marine Indelicato inspected a sarcophagus that was previously hit during the fight with the Predator. The sarcophagus opened, and an Engineer emerged from stasis. It was immediately hostile and killed Indelicato, sending Freebody and the others into a retreat. The Marines were forced to hide from the Engineer as it began taking control of the ship and directing it elsewhere

Landing on LV-223

Six days later, the derelict landed on the moon LV-223. The Engineer walked out of the vehicle and the Marines quickly followed once out of sight. During their exploration of the planet, searching for food, water and shelter, Freebody noticed movement with her tracker within a thicket. The Marines were suddenly ambushed by a horde of Xenomorphs, resulting in Rucker being taken and Jhalil wounded by acid blood. As the group were close to being overrun, they were saved by Geryon survivors Angela Foster and Galgo Helder. The Predator Ahab later revealed himself to the group too, much to Freebody and the other's shock and bemusement at seeing a non-hostile Yautja.

Freebody and the others regrouped at Foster's base, where they also met fellow Geryon survivors Chris and Jill.

Later, after Galgo reported to the group that the Engineer had visited a temple to reawaken a second Engineer from stasis to kill them, the team formulated a plan to leave the moon. Galgo was adamant that they would have to abandon the unconscious Jhalil, though Freebody angrily shut him down.

In a plan to seize the Juggernaut, Angela had Ahab and Galgo distract the second Engineer whilst Angela, Roth, Singer and Humble went to the derelict to deal with the first Engineer. The rest of the team, Freebody, Wearing, Chris, Jill, and Melville, were to carry the supplies, as well as Jhalil. Whilst escorting Jhalil to the ship, Freebody and the others were suddenly ambushed by Xenomorphs. Meanwhile, Angela, Singer and Humble had managed to board the ship before the Engineer had lifted it and left the planet. During the skirmish with the Xenomorphs, Freebody and Jill noticed the Juggernaut had already lifted off, with Jill assuming that the others had deliberately abandoned them.

Stranded

"Our last stand. Ain't gonna be much of a stand, is it?"
Freebody to Roth (from Aliens: Life and Death)

Freebody and the others were slowly becoming overwhelmed by the horde, with Wearing being killed and Chris taken by the creatures. Freebody and Melville (dragging Jill and Jhalil with him) retreated to a safe spot and managed to contact Roth, revealing that he did not make it onto the Juggernaut.

Roth later managed to regroup with the group. Roth discussed the chances of survivability with Freebody, the latter remarking that it wouldn't be much of a "last stand". Suddenly, an APC arrived at their junction. To the Marine's relief, the vehicle's drivers emerged to be Captain Paget and Ancane, who had finally caught up with the Juggernaut.

Back at the Hasdrubal and rescuing Chris

"Shit, if there's a chance Rucker or Chris are alive, I'll go for it."

Back at the Hasdrubal, Roth confirmed to the Marines that Chris had been left behind on LV-223, and wanted to return to the moon. Although Ancane was reluctant, citing the amount of losses received, Roth believed that no man should be left behind and that they owe Chris. As a result, Paget organised a "volunteer only" operation to rescue Chris, to which Freebody immediately volunteered.

The squad landed back on LV-223 and began exploring the terrain, before Jill suddenly picked up Chris' signal, who was still alive from within the hive. Following the revelation that Chris was impregnated with a Queen, Freebody and the squad were ambushed by a horde of Xenos, and later the Second Engineer, suffering devastating losses. However, the squad managed to retrieve Chris after the hive's current Queen erupted from the ground and assaulted the Engineer, impaling it with her tail. In the ensuing chaos, they returned to their dropship, only to see it in ruins (previously destroyed by the Engineer). Paget attempted to contact the Hasdrubal, but with no reply, the squad unaware that the Tartarus Predator clan had boarded the ship and slaughtered all of its remaining personnel.

Stand-off at the temple

"Your boss around? Me and Ahab have got news. Trouble's coming."
"Gee, well, you know, we already figured that out.

As Paget concluded they had lost contact with the ship, the group decided to retreat back to the Engineer temple that Roth and his squad initially encountered. The squad returned to the temple to set up camp and waited for one of the Hasdrubal's automatic freight buses to pick them up. Roth subsequently ordered Freebody and Cross to secure the perimeter. Whilst the two were conversing during their patrol, they were ambushed by Xenomorphs, but then subsequently saved by Ahab and Galgo, who had finally managed to catch up with the group. Galgo subsequently informed Freebody of trouble, pointing her to the Tartarus clan approaching them.

The Tartarus clan soon arrived, seeking revenge for their previous encounter with the Marines. After a confrontation between Ahab and the Clan Leader, the clan sided themselves with the Marines against an upcoming army of Xenomorphs approaching the temple, hellbent on retrieving Chris. The Marines and Predators both put up a tremendous effort against the Xenomorph army, but their numbers began dwindling, the Alien horde seeping through. In a last ditch effort, Chris sacrificed herself by blowing herself up, alongside the Queen inside of her, sending the Xenomorphs into a retreat.

Ahab and the Tartarus clan take their leave, as the Marines waited at noon for the freight bus to arrive.

The following morning, the squad was attacked by the Second Engineer, who had survived the battle with the Queen. As the others retreated, Melville confronted the being and attempted to reason with it. The Engineer was despondent, however, and prepared to kill Melville, to which Freebody saved him by gunning the creature down, stunning him. The group were forced to retreat inside the temple. Jill suggested using the Engineer's black goo against it, and the others help her grab an ampule and poured it over the hallway where they first entered. The Engineer arrived and stepped on the liquid. The liquid reacted aggressively to it's bio-suit, giving Paget the opportunity to gun down the Engineer for good.

The group all finally managed to return to the Hasdrubal using the freight bus, and they prepared to enter cryostasis for a twenty-three week return trip to Earth.

Personality and Traits

Freebody was a natural survivor and capable soldier. She specifically possessed an itchy trigger-finger that her superiors disapproved of. She also seemed to share a friendship with fellow Marine, Ancane.
