Alexander Basil "Al" Matthews (November 21, 1942[1] – September 22, 2018) was a United Kingdom-based American actor, singer[2] and former U.S. Marine who played Sergeant Apone in the 1986 film Aliens. He later lent his voice and likeness to the Apone character in the 2013 video game Aliens: Colonial Marines. Other notable films Matthews appeared in include Ragtime (1981), Stormy Monday (1988), The Fifth Element (1997) and Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). Aside from his work in film, Matthews had an extensive career in television and stage.
On September 22, 2018, Matthews was found unresponsive in his home in Orihuela Costa, Spain. He was pronounced dead later that day, aged 75.
