Bill Armstrong

William "Bill" Armstrong (born June 6, 1954) is a Canadian-born British actor, screenwriter and activist who played Lydecker in the extended Special Edition of the 1986 film Aliens. Aliens was Armstrong's first film role. Other notable films Armstrong has appeared in include Derailed (2005), A Sound of Thunder (2005), La Vie en Rose (2007), 1408 (2007) and The Dark Knight (2008). Aside from his work in film, Armstrong has had an extensive career in television and theater. He is perhaps best-known for his roles as eccentric bank investor Max Lubin in the drama series Capital City (1989-1990) and forensic pathologist Dr. Trevor Stewart in the police procedural series Silent Witness (1996-1998).

As a screenwriter he has written many episodes of the medical soap opera Doctors (2006-) and has since become a core writer for the show; his episode Unfinished Business was nominated for Best Single Episode at the British Soap Awards. He also wrote all five episodes in the first season of the comedy-drama series The Indian Doctor (2010).

In addition, Armstrong has had a career in activism; he is the former Chair of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) TV Committee. The organisation is dedicated to negotiating better pay and working conditions for writers.
