Toklo was a talekeeper of a Southern Water Tribe community during the late Hundred Year War. He was among those who left the South Pole region to fight in the Great War's last stages, only to return and discover his community had been wiped out in his absence. From then on, Toklo travelled the world to maintain his community's stories and help others in need.[2]
History
Toklo was born during the late Hundred Year War. As the grandson of his village's talekeeper, he spent his youth learning all his grandmother's stories. However, his community was increasingly beset by the Fire Nation's raids which eventually caused him to take up arms. Alongside warriors of other Southern communities, he left his home to fight at the Great War's frontlines. When the Hundred Year War finally ended in 100 AG, Toklo returned home, only to discover that his village had been completely wiped out. He could find no survivors. As the last member of his community, Toklo thus began to travel the world in order to maintain and spread the stories of his lost people.[2]
While in the Earth Kingdom town of Machi, Toklo helped quell a riot when the Harmony Restoration Movement fell apart in 101 AG. In the process, he met Kallika, Ginkgo, Ziyi, and Chihiro. As a result of their role in ending the local crisis, the five companions were given a special dispensation by the regional governor to help towns adjust to the fallout of the decolonization process.[1]
The group later came to Linsho during the Squid Ink Festival, seeking an arsonist who had been involved in several violent incidents in the region. While in town, they watched a conflict break out between the town's Fire Nation Loyalists and Earth Kingdom Restorationists, with each blaming the other for a fire at a Blue Skies Fisheries warehouse. Mayor Leaf tasked the companions with finding the arsonist as quick as possible, while also keeping people safe, as a storm was brewing.[1][3]
Personality
As a result of his people's fate, Toklo fell into a lasting melancholy, though he carried on to honor his role as talekeeper.[1] He saw it as his duty to spread his village's tales, yet others generally recognized that this was a heavy burden to him.[2]
Abilities
Toklo was a capable fighter and technologist, excelling in setting up traps.[2]
