The High Maiden[1], referred to as the Chamberlain by Wortsworth[2] is a character in Tears of the Kingdom. While she is never seen in any memory, in the ancient past she engraves 13 Stone Tablets, which Mineru then sends into the Sky, along with the Great Sky Island.[3] Her motive for doing so is the preserve the daily lives of the royal Hyrulean household for Link during the events of Tears of the Kingdom.[4]
Biography
When she was young, she witnessed King Rauru and Queen Sonia combine their sacred powers to create the Shrines of Light and seal away monsters.[5] The High Maiden serves the royal Hyrulean Household during and after their lifetime, when she no longer holds the position of High Maiden.[1] She is left in the dark as to Zelda's true identity, thinking she is a distant kin of Queen Sonia.[6] After she no longer holds the position of High Maiden and after the deaths of King Rauru, Queen Sonia, Mineru and after Zelda's Draconification into the Light Dragon[7], Mineru's spirit raises the Sky Islands into the air.[8] It is unknown what she does for the rest of her life, but when she writes the final tablet, she wants to serve the people of Hyrule.[9]
Trivia
- The High Maiden's writing is written in Middle English, implying that either everyone spoke that way in the ancient past, or that is how the royal court would write.
