This article is about the eponymous character of The Legend of Zelda franchise. For the video-game series named after her, see The Legend of Zelda series. For other uses, see Zelda (disambiguation).

Zelda,(SS | BotW | EoW | TCT | SSBM | SSBB | HWDE | SSBfWU | SSBU | CoH | HWAoC)[25][26] traditionally Princess Zelda,(TLoZ | TAoL | ALttP | OoT | OoS | OoA | FS | TWW | FSA | TMC | TP | ST | ALBW | BotW | TotK | EoW)[27][28][17] is the eponymous deuteragonist of The Legend of Zelda series. One of the key members of the Royal Family, she is the princess of the Kingdom of Hyrule and often the daughter of its king, making her likely its second-in-command. Princess Zelda made her first appearance in the original The Legend of Zelda, and is one of the three most important characters of the franchise, alongside Link and Ganon, which is also why her name appears in the title of every game (though The Adventure of Link does not show it directly). With the exception of Link's Awakening, Majora's Mask, and Tri Force Heroes, Zelda has always been one of the central characters in the series' plot. Usually but not always, Zelda is the one who sends the main protagonist Link on his mission to save Hyrule, defend the Triforce, and assists him in defeating their archnemesis, Ganon, since Ocarina of Time. She is also often the possessor of the Triforce of Wisdom.

The mortal incarnation of the Goddess Hylia, Zelda is chosen by destiny to be the keeper of the Triforce of Wisdom, which is the main reason she plays such an integral role in the legends of Hyrule, much like Link does with the Triforce of Courage or Ganon with the Triforce of Power. Just like the former, various incarnations of Princess Zelda have appeared across the history of Hyrule and have several alter egos such as Sheik or Tetra. While each Zelda is a distinct individual, the "fundamental soul" of the character has endured from one incarnation to the next.[29] ==Notes==

""It's not like we're trying to plan ahead for those theories, but in the series, there's this idea of reincarnation in that Zelda and Link, as they appear in the different titles, they are not the same person per se, but there's sort of this fundamental soul that carries on.""[1], Game Informer, retrieved December 9, 2023.
