Nurse Ratched is a character featured in "Z Nation", first encountered in Season 3 Episode 6 "Doc Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".

Pre-Apocalypse

Nothing is known about Nurse Ratched prior to the outbreak other than that she worked as a nurse at the Serenity Falls Institution for the Criminally Insane.

Post-Apocalypse

After the apocalypse, Nurse Ratched decides to stay at the asylum and keep working. She continues with group therapy and medication. She finds first 10K and then Doc, and brings them both to the clinic. With the assistance of some of the other patients, she performed surgeries and experiments. She is killed by a patient named Bob, a man she has had lobotomized and tried out some cruel experiments on. He crushes her skull as she tries to lobotomize Doc. Later on, all the patients flee the hospital, leaving Nurse Ratched's corpse behind, along with Doc and 10K.

• Nurse Ratched is inspired by Nurse Ratched from the controversial novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1962) by Ken Kesey. According to the protagonist's narration on the nurse: Ratched originally had a face that is smooth, calculated, and precision-made, like an expensive baby doll, skin like flesh-colored enamel which is a blend of white and cream, with baby-blue eyes, and a small nose with pink little nostrils. The only features that does not match Ratched's perfect appearance are her lips and fingernails that are both an "odd" or "funny" red-orange, like the tip of a soldering iron, a color that looks so hot or so cold that if she touches someone with it, no one could tell which, as well as carrying R-cup breasts that are described as either "massive" or "oversized" which she seems bitter about her great endowment; Ratched's uniform is a white, heavily starched, nurse attire that she uses to conceal her top-heavy bosom as best as she can for the purpose of hiding her femininity just like how she wears her hair in a tight bun so her beauty can be overlooked, also wearing high heels and walking stiffly everywhere she goes, and sometimes carries a woven wicker bag that contains pills, needles, wire, and forceps. To everyone else, she is a dull-looking but handsome middle-aged woman who was beautiful during her prime but is mainly an intimidating nurse who comes off as a twisted maternal figure to her patients.
• This depiction of Nurse Ratched looks the most accurate to the novel version of ''One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'' (1962). The only things missing is her red-orange lip-stick & nail-polish, high-heels, and very large bust size.
