Jasmine

Jasmine, known in Japan as Junko Makurada is an Obelisk Blue student, who is friends with Mindy and Alexis Rhodes.

Biography

Jasmine and is seen most of the time hanging around with Alexis and Mindy, cheering the former on during her Duels. She first appears when Syrus Truesdale snuck in the girls dorm because he thought Alexis liked him. The girls had to hide Syrus when Fonda Fontaine came to ask what was going on. Alexis decided to challenge Jaden to a duel with Mindy and Jasmine cheering her on. After Alexis loses, the girls let Syrus and Jaden leave without telling the staff though Jasmine clearly hated doing so, she is also the one who realized that Alexis being different than usual because of Jaden.

Early on in the first season, while searching for Chazz Princeton who left the school after losing to Bastion Misawa, Jasmine is kidnapped by an experimental chimpanzee, Wheeler, and taken hostage until Jaden Yuki won the Duel for her freedom. Despite the ordeal however, Jasmine bears no ill-will towards the chimpanzee and is the first to state that he should not be sent to the cruel lab he escaped from. When Wheeler is freed and able to return to his troop, Jasmine is happy for him and bids her former captor farewell on good terms. Later she and Mindy play tennis with Jaden and Syrus and are shown crushing on a guy named Harrington Rosewood who saves Alexis from getting hit. She and Mindy try to get info about Harrintion hoping Alexis will date him only for her to decyline. Later they join Syrus to watch Jaden duel Harrntion which ends in Jaden's win.

In the second season, during the Genex Tournament, she and Mindy were only seen Dueling once against a Pro League Duelest named Maitre' D, and were losing badly until Alexis took over and defeated Maitre' D. Mindy and Jasmine try to convince Alexis to return to Obelisk Blue, but Alexis declines saying her loyalty is to Sartorius. They were two of the few Obelisk Blue students who did not join the Society of Light.

In the third year, she got transported into the alternate dimension with everyone else, and in the fourth, she lost to Tyranno Hassleberry and Blair Flannigan during her first Duel in the Pair Duel Tournament. She was one of the last students at Duel Academy during the Trueman siege but lost along with Mindy, going to the World of Darkness. She was revived when Jaden defeated Nightshroud.

It is interpreted both girls share many crushes in the anime. Their eyes turn into hearts whenever an attractive male walks by, as seen with Harrington Rosewood, Atticus Rhodes, Yugi Muto, and Aster Phoenix. However, she seems to be a little more sensible than Mindy, as, despite initial infatuation with Harrington, she agreed with Syrus Truesdale about his somewhat boastful personality and sports clichés being repulsive as he bragged about himself to Alexis.

Etymology

It is possible her name is a reference to the Japanese singer and actress Junko Sakurada from the 1970s.
