Netflix is an American company that was founded on August 29, 1997. Netflix is known for being an online streaming service, and a former DVD rental service (pre-2007).[2]
Channel
Beginning
Netflix created its channel on July 17, 2012, and uploaded its first video on August 27, 2012, featuring a Netflix Original trailer titled "Jiro Dreams of Sushi".[3]
Current
The channel now uploads trailers or clips of movies and shows on Netflix.[4][5]
Founders
The founders of Netflix are Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings. The company was founded after Hastings was charged $40 for returning a movie he rented from Blockbuster late.[6]
Trivia
- Cocomelon was added into Netflix in 2020, along with other streaming services such as Roku and Hulu.[7]
- The Netflix Jr. channel used to be owned by Storybots, hence the username.[8]
- They own a channel called "The Swoon", which is reserved for discussing Netflix Korean series, such as Squid Game.[9]
- There's a longer alternate intro for their films which receive theatrical releases (since 2019), with music from composer Hans Zimmer. However, the original intro is used when said films are viewed on the service.[10]
