Filip Miucin is an American[citation needed] YouTuber, self-proclaimed "video production expert"[1] and former IGN reviewer famously known for his plagiarism controversy.
History
His first video publicly available on YouTube "DJI Mavic Pro Flight Test" was uploaded on December 27, 2016.
On around early 2017, he would later make videos about the Nintendo Switch, making reviews on accessories and games available on the device. He would later get hired at IGN as an editor/reviewer. [citation needed]
Controversy
Plagiarism
On August 7, 2018, Boomstick Gaming accused IGN for plagiarizing his review for the game Dead Cells, making a video where he compared his own review and Filip's review on the game.[2] IGN noticed this and made a post where they apologized and have since fired Filip from the company.[3] Filip made a response video on the controversy which it was later made private.[citation needed]
However, new plagiarism accusations emerged, one example being Filip copying Chris Scullion's review on FIFA 18 for Nintendo Life, which was brought to light by an anonymous tipster at Kotaku.[4] As a result, IGN has since took down all of Filip's reviews.[5]
Aftermath
On April 20, 2019, he uploaded a video where he apologized to most of the sources he has plagiarised from.[6] Later, he made a second video where he elaborated on why he decided to commit plagiarism, saying he had fear and anxiety on his writing skills, and tried to combat it by stealing from sources that "[he] trusted and respected [...] and tried to change them in a way that [he] would say it".[7]
He later continued to upload gaming and review videos (and even made his own original review on Dead Cells),[8] but often received with a lot of dislikes due to his controversy. Filip suddenly ceased uploading on September 2021.[citation needed]
Trivia
- His picture from his privated "My Response" video was mistakingly used as the picture of Newt Wallen in an interview about Swamp Zombies 2.[9] This information was found out by hbomberguy while he was doing research for his video "Plagiarism and You(Tube)".[10]
