- "Say... What's so great about this world, really? All the thieving for one's own gain! The greed! Life has less value in this world than a piece of dirt! This is your world of peace?!"
- — Na'el
Na'el Doyle (Japanese: ナエル・ドイル, Naeru Doiru) is a character in Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed. She was designed by Masatsugu Saito, the lead character designer of the game.
Overview
Na'el is the younger sister of Matthew, the granddaughter of Ghondor, and the great-granddaughter of the Noah and Mio that became N and M. She has a kind personality and has Agnian ancestry, displaying Flesh Eater and Gormotti traits identical to Mio's. She goes missing after the destruction of the City.
Her kindness proves to be her weakness, as the loss of her friends causes her to become bitter and cynical about saving anyone beyond the City's residents; her willingness to condemn the people of Keves and Agnus to destruction allows Alpha to make her into his vessel, described as being very much like how Zanza had once lived within Shulk.
According to her statue's description in Memorial Hall, as the Founder of House Doyle she laid down the cornerstones for the City's governance and legal system after Matthew left on a lonely expedition.
Personality
In contrast to her brother who wanted to free all of Aionios from Moebius, Na'el believed all the City people had to do was to live away from the fighting. She did not care for the lives of "old people" from Keves and Agnus, even denouncing them as "things". Despite this, she maintained a kind-heart, being respectful towards her family and playing piano for the children. All of this came crumbling down when Keves soldiers massacred those who were establishing a new City settlement, including Chyra. In utter rage, Na'el massacred the soldiers single handedly and asked why couldn't the nations leave the City people alone. Na'el soon admitted to Matthew that she was barely holding on to her sanity, calling him out on how he has yet to make his dreams of worldwide peace a reality. She wanted nothing more but to leave Aionios and live happily elsewhere. All of this left her as easy prey for Alpha's manipulations. Persuaded by the words of the "kind man," Na'el willingly let herself become his avatar.
It is unclear how much of her actions following the possession were her own or Alpha's, but when she appears again on her own in an illusion of Klaus's world, Na'el has fully given into her delusions. She plays with holographic replicas of the City children, and refuses to listen to a nearby radio feed revealing the truth about the failure of human rights in Klaus's world. She snaps out of her trance thanks to Matthew telling her that they wouldn't have existed without Keves and Agnus, and A showing her the fall of Klaus's world. After Alpha's demise, Na'el was saddened when Matthew leaves her to search the world for more friends, and hoped he would return safely. While Matthew never did, Na'el would go on to establish the second City's laws, maintaining a sense of responsibility towards the City for the rest of her life.
Appearance
Na'el shares her appearance to her great-grandmother Mio (or rather, M) and implied great great-grandmother Nia. She has white hair and Gormotti ears. Her skin is white and her eyes are yellow. She has a blue diamond shaped core crystal with a red tint on her chest. She has a lean physique and a decent sized bust. On her torso, she wears a white tank-top with a diamond cutout above her chest that exposes the core crystal. On top of that tank-top she has black belly-covering high cut pants. On her legs she wears black high leg boots with green stripes. Her hands have black fingerless gloves. She also wears a large dark tan jacket that she keeps unbuttoned. The sleeves and bottom of the jacket have bronze details. The inside of the jacket is black with green studs and trim. Her Blades are the Ether Accelerators, which are yellow energy shapes that resemble eight petalled flowers.
While being used as Alpha's avatar, Na'el wears a form-fitting body suit that is white on the torso, shoulders, and hips and black on the forearms and lower legs. This suit also has red and white lines above the wrists, below the knees, and on the torso. On both sides of her neck there are two red circular shapes that end in triangular points. Her core crystal is replaced with the Ontos core crystal. Lastly, there is ring like structure on her hips. In addition to the body suit, Na'el initially wears a white domino mask with red and black highlights around the eyes. During combat, she exhibits an orange glow. Overall, this outfit is eerily similar to Alpha's machine form.
Story
Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed
Life in the City
Na'el is the granddaughter of Ghondor and the sister of Matthew. When she was young, her parents died during an attack from Moebius. For the next 15 years, Na'el and Matthew were raised in the City by Ghondor, who trained them to use the power of Ouroboros. She and Matthew would also help out with gathering supplies for the City.
One day, she and Matthew found the remains of the village where her friend Chyra and her family were going to create a second City. She breaks down in tears at the loss of her friend. When the Kevesi soldiers responsible for the destruction show up, an enraged Na'el attacks them. Afterward, Na'el expresses her disagreement with taking the subdued soldiers back to the City, stating how it makes no sense, and now Chyra is dead.
The Avatar of Alpha

One day, Na'el and Matthew head to Corne Island to gather Ether Cylinders for the City. While there, they are attacked by Fogbeasts. After defeating the Fogbeasts, the siblings begin to head back home, when Na'el notices something on the shore. She finds the core of Ontos, and hears a voice in her head as she picks it up, before Matthew calls her to catch up.
Later, Na'el looks at the core when she hears explosions in the City. As this happens, Alpha inhibits her body, making her his avatar. Influenced by Alpha and his desire to create a new world without the violence of the past, Na'el rounded up all the Citizens so Alpha can create his new world. She is then confronted by her great-grandfather N, who, now a Moebius, tries to kill Alpha. N and Alpha then duel, with Alpha being surprised by N's willpower, and N eventually gaining the upper hand. As N is about to land a killing blow on Na'el, Ghondor intervenes and is impaled by N's Sword of the End. Ghondor leaves the future in Matthew's hands and uses the last of his Ouroboros power to attempt to free Na'el from Alpha's control, which saves the Citizens, but leaves the City physically destroyed. However, rather than freeing Na'el, Ghondor's attack ended up freeing Alpha's discarded conscience, which manifests as A.
After the City's destruction, Alpha has Na'el round up survivors from the City and send them to The Ark in Origin, trying to locate Matthew in the process. Eventually, she finds him and appears before the party at Raguel Lake. She tries to convince Matthew to come with her, but Matthew ends up confused after A, Shulk, and Rex tells him that it isn't Na'el, but Alpha. Finally, Alpha grows impatient and lashes out at the party. They all fight against Na'el and Alpha, until N shows up and fights Alpha himself. As N tries to finish Na'el off, Matthew's Ouroboros power activates and prevents N from killing Na'el. He attempts to attack N, but is stopped by A, who reveals that N is Matthew's great-grandfather. The party explains to Matthew that as long as Alpha exists, Moebius is not the primary target, and that N is not their enemy. Na'el leaves and tells the party she will be waiting.
After the party's battle with N on the Prison Terrace of Prison Island, Na'el/Alpha shows up and sends a ray of lightning at N, shocking him. Alpha's power emanates a fog which consumes the party and sends them into Origin's memory stage.
Rejecting Alpha's Future
In the memory of Klaus's world, Na'el plays with some children and plays the piano until Matthew shows up. Na'el tells him that the world could be like this if they went through with Alpha's plan, oblivious to the widespread strife in the world brought up by the reports from a nearby Radio. A then shows Na'el the Land of Morytha, the aftermath of Klaus' experiment and what Alpha's proposed new world would ultimately become if his plan succeeded. Matthew persuades her that she would be no different from Moebius if she continued to view the Kevesi and Agnians as "things" unworthy of life, and that they could live like the people of the City if they were only allowed to choose it. Na'el agrees to join the party and stop Alpha, but not before Alpha regains control of her and disappears.
During the fight against Alpha, N reappears and strikes Alpha by surprise, which frees Na'el from Alpha's clutches. Na'el fights alongside the party as Alpha unleashes his true form, that of a large humanoid figure with an empty, mask-like face. In a final effort to defeat Alpha, N grants Matthew the powers of his sword and instructs him to combine it with his Ouroboros Knuckles. Matthew's gauntlets begin to emit green energy, which grants the party the true power of Ouroboros, resulting in Alpha's demise.

Sometime after the reconstruction of the City, Na'el, along with Glimmer, Nikol, Riku, Panacea, and Linka, send Matthew off as he sets out on a journey by himself, leaving the City in the hands of his friends and family. She begins to cry as Matthew promises her that he will come home once he finds some friends. Na'el then tells Matthew to come back safe as he departs on his own.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Legacy as the City's Liberatrix

Na'el would go on to lay the cornerstones for much of the City's governance and legal systems. Na'el eventually became the Founder of House Doyle and had a family.
Na'el is remembered as a legendary hero, the founder of House Doyle who liberated the City from ruin. Her whereabouts are stated to have been lost after N's ravaging of the old City, but upon encountering the other Founders, she fully committed herself to the fight. She is said to have brought the power of Ouroboros to completion when fighting alongside the Founder of Vandham, a power that had been wielded by others before them but never to its full potential.
Her legacy lives on as a symbol of strength and courage through a statue in the Memorial Hall, honoring her alongside the other Founders as the City's Liberatrix.
Gameplay
Na'el is briefly a party member in a flashback with Matthew at the start of Chapter 2 and again in Chapter 4, and briefly a playable character in a flashback at the end of Chapter 4, and during the second phase of the final boss. After beating the game, she permanently becomes a member of the party, but cannot be controlled, does not have additional appearances in main story and side quests, similar to Heroes in the base Game. Her class is War Mage, an Agnian Attacker class. She uses the Ether Accelerator as her Blade.
Na'el has no Affinity Growth tree; all of the Arts and Skills tied to her class are obtained alongside her. Additionally, she starts with all of her Art, Gem, and Accessory slots unlocked, so no Unlock Kits need to be expended on her. Furthermore, she has no Unity Pairings either.
In a Chain Attack, Na'el starts with 20 TP by default. She operates as a default Attacker, gaining a 125% TP multiplier when chosen first in a Chain Order. Her Chain Art is Ether Calamity, which has a default completion bonus of "Attacks during Chain Attack gain 60% chance to bypass defense". Unlike Hero characters in the main game, selecting her Chain Order will consume the Chain Gauge as with playable characters.
General Stats
Internally, there are two versions of Na'el used in the game; one is used for general gameplay, while the other is used only for the flashback battle against N at the end of Chapter 4, which has slightly higher base stats. This table lists only the general-gameplay version.
Level | HP | Attack | Healing Power | Dexterity | Agility | Critical Rate | Block Rate | Physical Defense | Ether Defense |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 267 | 79 | 1 | 44 | 22 | 10% | 10% | 10% | 25% |
99 | 3,817 | 1,299 | 16 | 440 | 232 | 10% | 10% | 10% | 25% |
Weapon Stats
Na'el's weapon cannot be upgraded in Riku's Workshop. Internally, her weapon has two "levels", one used for general gameplay and the other used specifically for the flashback battle against Ghondor at the start of Chapter 2. In general gameplay, her weapon stat is fixed to the following:
Attack | Critical Rate | Block Rate |
---|---|---|
39 | 10% | 10% |
In the Ghondor fight, her weapon stat is instead fixed to the following:
Attack | Critical Rate | Block Rate |
---|---|---|
5 | 0% | 10% |
To compensate for the low weapon Attack stat, her Strength base stat at level 99 is significantly higher than any other character in both the main game and Future Redeemed, in order to remain on par with other characters. (Her raw Strength stat at level 99 is 934; the next-highest character, Rex, has a raw Strength stat of 411.)

Etymology
Na'el name may be a reference to Na'eltama'uk, often known under her diminutive Na'el, who is Ham's fiancée in an apocrypha, wherein she is swept away during the Great Flood, as she was wicked, or Ham's wife in the Book of Jubilees wherein she survives the flood aboard Noah's ark.
Trivia
- Na'el bears a resemblance to early concept art for Nia.
- During the flashback scene at the start of Chapter 2, the City children request that Na'el play songs on the piano for them that she has played for them before. The songs mentioned by the children are "Gaur Plain" from Xenoblade Chronicles and "The Tomorrow With You" & "Bringer of Chaos! Ultimate" from Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
- Na'el's name may be a reference to Na'eltama'uk, the wife of Ham (son of Noah) who was aboard Noah's Ark in the Old Testament.
