Hudou-ren

The Hudou-ren (Japanese: 普導連) is a Japanese Light Infantry squad that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.

History

The Hudou-ren (フドウレン) stands for "普導連", the abbreviation of "普通科教導連隊". This unit is also known as "JGSDF Fuji School Brigade".

Overview

Like other light infantry, the Hudou-ren make for some of the best line-holding infantry in the game, especially when put into an urban space with a clear view of a choke point. Though less effective against heavy tanks than their missile-armed REDFOR counterparts, such as Gornostrelki and Padobranci '90, their recoilless rifles will wreck transport vehicles and medium armour. The extra ammunition they carry for these weapons furthermore makes them much less susceptible to wasting powerful missiles on cars and trucks while still being moderately capable against mid/high-end tanks such as the Polish T-72M2 Wilk. Finally, their rifles, machine guns and high training allow them to defend themselves against most infantry assaults. When carefully positioned on the fringes of a town overlooking a bridge or a crossroads, a quad-stack of Hudou-ren will happily weather a sustained attack with adequate support.

Like all infantry assigned to defence, Hudou-ren are susceptible to sustained bombardment from land/sea-based artillery and attack aircraft alike, particularly if said bombardment involves anything with napalm. Additionally, don't expect them to last long against a death-stack of high-strength elite infantry, like Komandosi, or against anything with a flamethrower. This is especially if the enemy is smart enough to smoke out a defensive line beforehand, blinding your defenders to the incoming assault.
