The C1 battle rifle, officially designated C1A1 (C1), is the Canadian version of the British L1A1 SLR. The C1A1 fires the 7.62×51mm NATO cartridge.

The rifle entered Canadian Army service in 1954, being the first semi-automatic weapon to be adopted by the Canadian Army, who was also the first NATO country to adopt this robust Belgian weapon.

Since its adoption, the C1A1 has been the primary service rifle of the Canadian Forces until replaced by the C7, a derivative of the American M16 in 1984.
