Han Wangguk (한왕국, Han Wangguk) is a recurring character in How to Fight/Viral Hit.
Appearance
Older brother of Han Gyeoul, Han Wangguk in contrast to his sister's snow white complexion is a tanned and tall individual. He has a well toned and muscular body with visibly ripped legs and arms. Formerly, acting as the cameraman of his and his sister's newtube channel, he had his hair shaved. Later, after quitting newtube he has started growing his brown hair and it is visibly longer than it was before. He has almond shaped eyes that often make him look tired. He has a slit in his left eyebrow, and his pupils, very much like his sister are red.
Personality
Initially, when introduced as an antagonist he always sported an emotionless look on his face until it involved his sister. He was shown having an indifferent attitude and had a poker face, even when faced with danger. Wangguk is someone who primarily looks out for himself and his loved ones, and avoids risking his own well being for the sake of others. After quitting NewTube, he admits that he did feel bad for the people he and his sister had exposed, but he didn't regret doing any of that, because he needed the money made from those videos to survive.
In his flashback, he was shown to be a normal middle schooler who was more caring and emotionally expressive, but he became the way that he is after all the accumulated mental and physical torture of his life in prison. He is very tough as he survived the extremely harsh training and all the attacks his inmates threw at him. These experiences changed his mindset to be solely based on surviving no matter what, even if that meant he had to crush others beneath his feet.
Feeling guilty that his sister's mental condition was caused due to his absence, Han Wangguk swore to serve as her 'prisoner'. Knowing this made Gyeoul start manipulating him to do the things she wants. While Wangguk sometimes refused to fulfill her wishes, he quickly changed his mind as to not upset her. He has been shown doing violent and immoral actions just to keep his sister entertained, despite not wanting to. Wangguk says that he did whatever his sister wanted because he was afraid of her hating him and running away.
Wangguk is someone who values his memory and uses his past experiences as a way to deal with what's in front of him, which can be seen when he is fighting. He is very perceptive and has a vivid memory, being able to recognize 244 in his disguise because of his tone of voice and his cauliflower ears. He also remembers small details, like the reports against 244 which would immediately disappear without traces.
He is fiercely protective of the people he cares about and strives to survive despite all hurdles. He is also very strong willed and adamant, not giving 244 the pleasure of seeing him beg for his life even when he was captured with the intention of murder.
History
In his backstory, Han Wangguk was just another normal middle schooler who loved taking photographs. He liked how the photographs could capture one's past and keep it like that even when the subject of his photograph has all grown up. His mother, however, always rejected to get her photographs taken by her son. This was because her face was always swollen after getting beaten up by her husband ,Wangguk's father. Wangguk, once advised his mother to run away by herself or with them, but she refused. Despite getting regularly abused, she still had feelings for her husband and felt sorry for him. Her resolve didn't last too long as at one point, she committed suicide, leaving her last message to Wangguk to "survive somehow." Han Wangguk in anger had planned to kill his father but later refrained from doing so as he didn't wanted to take away Han Gyeoul's father too when she had already lost her mother at such a young age. He regretted this decision when one day, he came home from school to see his sister's swollen face as a result of getting beaten up in the same way their mother was by their father. In anger, he assaulted his father with a hammer. This led to him getting sentenced to 6 years in prison. His inmates were bloodthirsty and depraved thugs who made life hell for him until he started fighting back.
He became part of CUD (Chung Ui Dae), which was a reformation program for Boxing in the juvenile detention center. He became quite invincible among the other boxers, being the only one left who had enough willpower to go through with the harsh training. This gained him the nickname "freak". It was in that juvenile center where he met Baek Seongjun for the first time.
After a while of being in prison, Wangguk started to hate Gyeoul for never coming to visit him, assuming that she didn't care for him. He was released from prison 2 years on parole, with no one waiting for him outside. Full of anger, Wangguk rushed home, only to find Gyeoul sitting on a pile of trash, completely neglected and unable to take care of herself. He realized that he didn't think of what his sister could've been through all on her own, so from that day he swore to serve as her 'prisoner'.
He and his sister started a NewTube channel under Seongjun's guidance. He was the cameraman of their channel named "OnePunchTV". He dug up false dirt on popular influencers so that his sister could call them out on their channel and garner a lot of views. After, Yeo Rumi called Han Gyeoul out on her manipulative toxic behavior and her insecure personality, which made the pink haired girl deeply upset. Despite Wangguk's request, his sister falsely accused Yeo Rumi of selling CP and having engaged in compensated dating in middle school. She started a witch hunt on the popular beauty newtuber which made Yoo Hobin take a stand and expose "OnePunchTV" and it's shady working. A heated fight occurred between Han Wangguk and Yoo Hobin where the latter somehow managed to defeat the former. Han Wangguk later left NewTube and started working part time as an errand boy in a photo studio.
