Imagine what your worst nightmare sounds like... whispered a million times, overlapping like waves, spreading out in every direction. A Voice Straight from the Pit of Hell. Because that's what's directing the Terminators out there. It's nothing Skynet could even begin to simulate... Rabid, virulent madness. Only a human mind is capable of such-- --brutality.
~ John Connor describing Thomas Parnell to his wife Kate.
Life eternal. Mission accomplished. Amen.
~ Thomas Parnell after achieving "eternal life" - his most famous quote.

Thomas James Parnell is the main antagonist of Terminator Salvation: The Final Battle, the final installment of the Salvation Timeline of the Terminator franchise.

He is a notorious serial killer who, prior to Judgement Day, made himself famous with his crimes until he was executed and had his corpse obtained by Dr. Serena Kogan. He was then resurrected by Skynet as a T-H of Terminator Ultra-5000 model to serve as it's ultimate weapon against the Resistance by using his mind to improve the Terminators' efficiency, but he turned rogue, becoming a threat to both Skynet and the Resistance alike.

Biography

Thomas James Parnell spend most of his childhood at the mercy of his abusive father. One day, after receiving a beating from him, Thomas finally snapped, and murdered his father by brutally stabbing him in the back with a kitchen knife. Having found a twisted love for murder, he spent the next years reliving the pleasure he felt upon giving the end his abuser deserved by doing the same thing to others. By 2003, Parnell was a world-renowned serial killer who was being hunted down by several law enforcement agencies until he was finally captured and executed. After that, his corpse was donated to Dr. Serena Kogan, who claimed to use it to save lives, when in reality, it would be put in cryogenic stasis to bring Parnell back as a T-H in the future.

In 2029, Thomas Parnell was brought back to life as a Terminator Ultra-5000 T-H. Upon being informed of what happened in the twenty-six-year gap between his death and the war and why he was revived, Thomas began linking his consciouness with the Terminators on the battlefield, slaughtering John Connor's battalions. Parnell warned Skynet that Dr. Kogan might turn against it and advised it to update his connection link so it can never be severed. In reality, however, he was manipulating the A.I. so can't take his Terminators away from him once he puts his true plan into motion.

When Skynet called him out for waisting valuable resources by linking with more Terminators than necessary, he finally revealed his true intentions: erase Skynet's commands and replace them with his own personality. Upon realizing there was a limiter to prevent him from taking over, he forced Dr. Kogan into giving the password for the program override, thus taking control of even more Terminator forces. Skynet attempted to kill him with the Terminators that still remain under it's control, but to no avail. Because of this, Skynet had no other choice but to ressurect Thomas' predecessor Marcus Wright to forge an alliance between itself and the Resistance to kill Parnell. With both sides at the brink of defeat, John agreed.

Upon learning of the alliance, Parnell realized that the man who was trying to kill him in 2003, whom he thought was either a vigilante or a member of one of the families he murdered wanting revenge, was actually Resistance member Simon Taylor, who was sent back in time to kill him in such a way that his body would be rendered useless, and that the trio who saved him by killing Simon were Terminators that he sent to protect his younger self. He then sent the New Terminators back to 2003 to kill Simon and preserve the timeline. After Dr. Kogan was rescued from Thomas' clutches, John and Skynet launched their plan: copying John's conciousness in a Terminator body. Once his army was cut through, Thomas and John engaged in a fight.

Parnell, however, played dirty; before the duel began, he sent a remote-controlled T-850 to terminate Connor's unconcious human body. When it looked that John was winning, the T-850 killed his human body by shooting at the head, apparently killing his Terminator counterpart as well. However, Thomas underastimated John, as his "dead" robot body rose again; having become his default body once the neural link between John's body and the endoskeleton looped back and his mind was preserved in the endoskeleton. By the time he realized this, it was too late, as Thomas was punched thought the chest by John, before being ripped in half and having his head crushed by stomping, killing the deranged serial killing Terminator for good.

In the end, the ordeal made John realize that Skynet is waging war because it wants the same thing humanity wants: survival, and that Skynet may have the resources to rebuild the world but has no true purpose since it was activated and vice-versa, which led to him proposing a truce that the A.I. agreed, thus ending the war.

Personality

Guys like Thomas Parnell aren't born serial killers. They're made that way. By abuse. By violence. By rage-- --and the blind need for retribution. So they lash out at the target of their rage. And in doing so, they discover something terrible. It's not the discovery that they can do it... we are all capable of terrible violence... nor the fact that they enjoy it. The trully terrifying thing-- ...is the moment they discover that it's not enough. Not this murder-- --or the next one-- --or the one after that or the one after that. For all their smiles, for all their tough talk and bravado, they live in a hell of their own making. The truth they keep behind their eyes-- --is that no matter what they do-- --they can never kill enough, or maim enough, or terrify enough to fill the hole in the middle of their being. So they can never stop, never slow down, never, ever give up until they have slaughtered and murdered everyone and anyone in their path. Thomas Parnell was a Terminator years before your first line of code was written.
~ Serena Kogan explaining about Thomas Parnell's twisted and sick mind to Skynet, making it realize that bring a serial killer back to life as a Terminator was a bad idea.

If there's one thing that can easily describe Thomas Parnell in a nutshell, that would be his craving for murder. Unlike Marcus Wright, Parnell takes sadistc pleasure in his killings and has no regret or remorse for doing so. He is even implied to be a cannibal, since one of the Terminators under his control was shown chewing a severed human hand, showcasing how dangerous he is.

He is also manipulative, as evident when he used the human factor of changing minds about an idea to make Skynet believe that Serena Kogan might turn against it to make the A.I. upgrade his connection link with the Terminators so that no one can take them from him once he puts his usurpation plan into motion. When something doesn't work the way he wants, he immediately becomes hostile, as evident when he threatened Serena Kogan with death if she didn't give him the override password so he can take control of more Terminator forces.

His greatest weakness, however, is his lack of respect and narcisism, as shown when he mocked John over being a pro when it comes to killing Terminators but an amateur in killing other humans. That has proven to be his downfall, as this prevented him from realizing that John was revived as Terminator before it was too late.

Quotes

You have no idea what it's like...no idea at all... ...What's like to feel necks snapping under my fingers... ...throats crushed... ...hearts ripped from chests still beating... Feeling all of it at the same time from a hundred hands, seeing it all from a hundred eyes. I was wrong. There is a heaven and I'm it... And there's a hell, and they're in it.
~ Thomas Parnell describing what it is to feel his Terminators killing soldiers from the Resistance.
Thomas: Did you notice the way she hesitated? Did you catch her tone of voice?
Skynet: Explain.
Thomas: Kogan's a good doctor, but she's still one hundred percent human and still a woman. Humans in general change their minds all the time, and women, well... I think you'd better set me up with a hard link connection to the control interface that can't broken by anyone... ...just in case her priorities have changed.
Skynet: It is a logical request and will be implemented immediately.
Thomas: Much appreciated. Now if you don't mind, I'll get back into doing what I do best. Because as strong as your Terminators are-- --they still need to learn one thing or two about death.
~ Thomas Parnell tricking Skynet into upgrading his link connection with the Terminators so that no one can take them from him, foreshadowing his betrayal.
Skynet: You are allowing valuable resources to be lost.
Thomas: The human casaulties continue to rise--
Skynet: Confirmed. Fifteen percent above standard. But losses of T-Units also above optimal percentages--
Thomas: War is messy. You want me to win it for you? That's what I'm doing. One crushed throat-- --one torn-out heart-- --one decaptation at a time. [makes the Terminator holding the woman's decaptated head move the hair away from the face] There you go-- --get that mussed hair out of your face. Just because you're dead doesn't mean you can't be all nice and pretty.
Skynet: Parnell-- --postbattle, there will need to be sufficient Terminator forces to begin repairs, assure the integrity of infrastructure--
Thomas: So just build more of them.
Skynet: New Terminator construction requires time and materials and resources and--
Thomas: Boring... and not my problem. [sits on the chair with the legs on the desk] Right now, I have control over forty percent of the Terminator forces. At my present rate of acquisition, I should be up to seventy percent soon. The faster I get control, the sooner this is over.
Skynet: A slower rollout and acquisition of forces would be more advisable, would be--
Thomas: Somebody else's style. Not mine. Best thing you can do is just get out of my way and let me do what I do.
~ Thomas Parnell revealing his true colors to Skynet.
Thomas: Dr. Kogan-- --I've been extending my consciousness out to more and more Terminators...up to fifty-seven percent now, and I've noticed something-- --troubling.
Serena: Oh?
Thomas: The more Terminator C.P.U.'s I acquire, the more the acquisition system seems to slow down. It's almost as if someone put a limiter on the system to slow me down if I got too big for my britches. You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?
Serena: No, I--
Thomas: [grabs Serena by the neck and pushes her to the computer screen] Don't lie to me, doc. You may be a human brain in an artificial body, same as me, but it's nowhere near as strong, and I'm guessing that brain of yours wouldn't survive long if I ripped it out of the rest of your body-- --would it?
Serena: [struggles to free herself] ...No...
Thomas No, it wouldn't. I'm guessing a smart scientist like you thinks forward and backward on every problem, every contigency... so I'm guessing you put in an override password in case you needed it. Well, doc, right now-- --you need it.
Serena: Password. Onemonkey.
Thomas: There, you see? That wasn't so hard. Initiating override. Onemonkey. Acquisition control at fifty-eight percent... ...sixty percent... ...sixty-one percent... [let go of Serena] Yeah...yeah, that's it...give it all to me--
Serena: Twomonkeys.
Thomas: [puts his hands on his head due to the pain] AAAAAHH!
Serena: That's right...every contigency--
Thomas: Doesn't matter, doc...I've got control of over sixty-three percent of the Terminators... and I'll get the rest, sooner or later... with or without your help-- --or Skynet's.
~ Thomas Parnell overriding his programming and taking control over more Terminators.
Thomas: What are you up to, I wonder?
Skynet: Parnell--
Thomas: First you send a group of T-Units against me--
Skynet: --An error in the interface--
Thomas: And now I find you've shielded some of your recent transmissions. Hardly the actions of a gracious host to a guest in his home. Here I am, fighting your fight on your battlefield, and you've done nothing to reclaim the Time Door from Connor's forces. I find that just a little suspicious about your intent. But still... I've decided to give you the benefit of the doubt...I'm here to help you, and that's what I'm going to do. If you can't dislodge Connor's forces from the facility, I'll do it. Save you the trouble. That is what you want, isn't it?
Skynet: Confirmed.
Thomas: Good. I knew you'd see it my way. After all, we can't have a Time Door just sitting open like that. Who knows what kind of mischief they could get into? So you just lie back and rest...and let me do what I do best. Besides, it's about time I went mano a mano with Connor. Let's see what the legend is really capable of doing when his back is against the wall. Have fun boys, and remember-- --I'll be with you every step of the way. Especially when you snap Connor's neck like a chicken bone. Just can't wait to feel that one.
~ Thomas Parnell sending his Terminators after John and Marcus.
Thomas: It's time you leveled with me, don't you think? I mean, first you try to push me out of the Control System for the Terminator army... then you send some of those forces against me in a so-called accident-- ---forcing me to take even more control over the operations to make sure there can be no more such "accidents"... ...And here I thought we were friends, that we were on the same side.
Skynet: Our agendas are not the same. You would destroy everything, humans and machines alike.
Thomas: You say "destroy everything" as if it were a bad thing. And after intercepting a coded signal you sent to reactivate Marcus Wright, and his sudden appearance outside the front door, I have to wonder just what you're up to.
Skynet: My operating system cannot be compromised by any human, nor do you have the training.
Thomas: Right on both counts. Fortunately I don't have to rely on that. [connects a cable to his hand] Now that I have acces to more and more of your system files, I don't have to try to hack the system. Downloading the relevant files even as we speak. In a few more hours, I will be you and you will be me and won't that be just-- --just-- --no. When the Terminators came for me in the past to protect me from some guy trying to kill me, I thought it was a vigilante cop...or maybe a member of one of the families I'd killed. But it wasn't. It was someone sent into the from right here... right now. Well, I'm going to deal with this...I'm going to finish them-- --and them I'm coming for you...and there's nothing you can do to stop it.
~ Parnell finding out about the alliance between the Resistance and Skynet.
Thomas: Do you understand the mission?
African American Terminator: Yes.
Thomas: Because I don't want to risk putting some of myself in you in case the time jump erases it...had to rely on changing your programming--
Teenaged Terminator: We understand the mission.
Thomas: Good. Because I like this time and don't want to change anything. You may have been built for this time, but I was born for it. Do what's necessary to ensure that what has happened... is what does happen.
~ Thomas Parnell sending the New Terminators back in time to protect his younger self.
Dr. Kogan... Parnel here... You're needed in surgery. Consider it a matter of life and death.
~ Thomas Parnell capturing Serena Kogan.
Thomas: Skynet is dying. But not quickly enough. It's running and hiding, and I don't have the neural advantage to finish chasing it down. So I need an upgrade. I used Skynet's own A.I. design system that'll seal the deal. But I still need someone to install the thing.
Serena: By my analysis, you now control ninety percent of all the Terminators on the planet--have one of them do it.
Thomas: They're only as good as I am, and I'm not you. I need a surgeon's nimble fingers. I need you.
Serena: And if I say no?
Thomas: That gun is loaded with antiaircraft shells. Let me explain what happens when something of that caliber is fired into the human head. It creates a hole the size of an ostrich egg goin in and going out-- --well, there's nothing for there to be a hole in since the other side of your head has been completely blown off. In the millisecond between when it's fired and when it comes out the other side, the pressure shatters your jaw and your teeth and blows your eyeballs out of their sockets. And then there's just a fine red mist where your head was. Even though you're eighty percent synthetic now, like me, I can't imagine that the other twenty percent of you relishes the idea of having your brain splashed over the walls like oatmeal. [hands over the scalpel to Serena] If you do not perform the surgery, if you fail, if you try to harm me in any way-- fine. Red mist. Proceed.
~ Thomas threatning Serena's life to make install the chip he created to finish destroying Skynet.
And suddenly everything is so much better. Put her somewhere easier to find than the last one...in case we need her for anything else. Now to begin the process of ending this once and for all.
~ Thomas Parnell ordering one of his Terminators to keep Dr. Kogan as hostage in the aftermath of the surgery, now getting much closer to destroy Skynet.
Show me. That's where we were keeping Dr. Kogan. Do we have her location? Status? Caught in the crossfire? Well, I always say, you can't make an omelet without breaking a few Kogans. Didn't really need her once she did the upgrade on my processors. Just wanted her in case any new options came along. Ah, well... Find Skynet. Explain. Skynet operating systems operating at micro threshold impossible to detect. So it's hiding what's left of its operating system somewhere. Affirmative. Search parameters not configured for less than one teraflop storage. Estimate Skynet controls less than fifteen percent of total T-Units. Just as well. Skynet will be down to the size of a pocket calculator by the end of the day. The rest will be all me. Just as all of you are all me. except I'm far more interesting to talk to.
~ Thomas after Serena's escape with the help of the Resistance group led by Marcus.
Stop him. Right-- --now.
~ Thomas Parnell sending his Terminators after John Connor upon finding out that Dr. Kogan is still alive and turned him into a Terminator.
John: Look like I made kind of a mess out there. [throws a decapitated Terminator head to Parnell's feet before approaching him] Let's make one in here.
Thomas: Why not?
~ Thomas and John about to fight.
Sever the connection...kill the brain-- --kill the man...and disrupt the Terminator.
~ Thomas Parnell ordering the T-850 to kill John's human body during their fight.
[bends down on one knee close to John's Terminator body] There are two ways you can kill a tree. You can tear it apart, leaf by branch by bark-- --or you can simply tear out the root system. My system indicated that the copy of your consciousness here could not stand the trauma of having your brain destroyed there. You've been killing Terminators all your life, Connor...you're a pro. But when it comes to killing humans-- --you're strictly an amateur. And speaking of... Time to end this war once and for all... take out the Defenders of Humanity-- [stands up] --and leave the rest for me to play with... for as long as I like. [sees John's Terminator body standing behind him through the computer screen and realizes that he is still alive] No--
~ Thomas Parnell revealing his plan out of assumption that John died only to find out that he's still alive, also his final words before his death.
