The T-400s, also known as Crankers and Fakers, are major antagonists in the 2002 sci-fi action video game The Terminator: Dawn of Fate.
They are a series of Terminator units created by Skynet during initial tests to mimic human anatomy and provide endless combat units that are cheaply assembled from low quality materials yet able to be deployed in massive numbers. Although they served their creator as impressive guards in early internment prisons, they are no longer a match for modern weapons, and only a few rusty units remain in service as diversionary strikers while more advanced Terminators take position.
History
The T-400s were an early prototype of the T-500. They were created during a series of tests regarding human autonomy. The overall idea was to create a Terminator series that possesses a human's size, shape, motion, and mobility. The T-400s were made from materials that were cheap and not very durable. The materials were chosen because Terminators did not possess hyper-alloy or strong armor at the time. Despite the T-400s' lack of effective materials, Skynet mass produced copies of them. The copies were deployed as expendable soldiers onto the battlefield. The T-400s' new objective was to terminate human survivors.
Eventually, the T-400s were succeeded by newer and more sufficient models of Terminators. As a result, the T-400s were deemed obsolete. Compared to the newer models of Terminators, the T-400s weren't able to sustain much damage caused by plasma rifles. However, Skynet still mass produced copies of them. New objectives were assigned to the more recent copies of the T-400s. Some copies were tasked with rigging explosives in enemy territory. Most of the other copies were assigned as guards for locations of Skynet's installations, factories, or prison camps holding humans. The rest of the copies were given the task of terminating human survivors.
The production of the T-400s ultimately ended after the majority of Terminators consisted of the T-500s and higher models.
Specification
Technical Data
A T-400 was physically strong and could lift about 1000 lbs of weight. They were known to be able to break through concrete and reinforced walls. They could easily beat a human in close combat.
Unlike later Terminator models, the T-400 series used cheaper materials like steel rather than hyper alloys and, likewise, more primitive technologies throughout. The hydraulic systems were slow but capable of providing the Terminators superior strength compared to a human. The primary optical sensor with their bright red glow was a dead giveaway to any Resistance snipers out in the field, who then often proceeded to pick off the T-400 units afar. The series also featured a secondary more traditional optical sensor mounted on their own gimbals above the left shoulder to afford the machines a wider view of the battlefield and compensate for the slow and limited turning angle of the head assembly, even permitting the units to see behind themselves.
Overall the machines were made for poor Infiltrators as they were noisy, slow and poorly armoured which made them easy targets on the battlefield. The single glowing red optical sensor and exposed wiring could be exploited by a trained resistance fighter to quickly defeat a unit in ranged combat. However due to the relatively low production costs, units were typically deployed en masse to compensate as the war grew on.
Intelligence
The T-400s utilized a fair amount of artificial intelligence. They were smart enough to walk, shoot straight, and follow simple orders. They were also able to distinguish the difference between their allies and enemies. The T-400s' intelligence was limited, though. They were incapable of adapting to constant changes in the battlefield. The limited intelligence also impaired the T-400s' ability to improvise during battles. This rendered the T-400s as predictable and easy to be outsmarted by enemies. Unlike newer models of Terminators, the T-400s possessed a very primitive CPU. Their mentality was comparable to either an ape or a very slow-witted child.
