Associate Deputy Director Richard Kain is a minor antagonist in the 2010 first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops and the overarching antagonist of the 2012 first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified.

Biography

Background

Richard Kain was born sometime around 1904^[1] in Berkley, California and later graduated from high school in 1922. After graduation, he got enrolled into the Central Intelligence Agency. In 1954, Kain was promoted to Associate Deputy Director of the CIA. Years later, he met Ryan Jackson and made him his Special Assistant.

On October 21st, 1963 Kain sent an email to John McCone regarding Alexander Mason to sign off the approval for his field operational status. He later told him they could discuss it further after he returned from his Class of '22 Reunion in Berkley. He was later sent an email by Jackson regarding Mason again for his psych evaluation form.

On February 11th, 1968 Kain met with Grigori Weaver regarding Mason on how he can't be trusted. In 1973, he was confronted by Richard Helms by running unsanctioned operations and they later discussed this afterwards. In 1975, Kain was mentioned by Hudson regarding him stepping down as an Associate Deputy Director, but remained within the CIA.

Operation Charybdis

In October of 1978, Kain sent an email to Jackson regarding Operation Charybdis and said not to disclose any information involving the operation since Jason Hudson would be assassinated, in which he was liked by the CIA directors. He later send Jackson several other emails regarding a Kristina Raskova and Jonathan Price.

He later met with Price, giving him the location of Hudson and Weaver which they were in South Africa, and also gave him a CIA-MI6 team to do the job. Afterwards, he met with Raskova and gave her the job to assassinate Mason by any means necessary. However, before the operation could procceede, Edward Richtofen caught wind of it and told the CIA directors, which forces Kain into being fired.
