Outputting response: Old man, quit sneaking glances over at me and just admit you want to see this. Why are you even so interested in leering at the details of a body you created yourself, you dirty old man?
~ Ladybird critizing Hasuu for her design.

Ladybird is a major character in the light novel series A Certain Magical Index: Genesis Testament, serving as a major antagonist in the Operation Handcuffs Arc and a supporting character in the Post-Handcuffs Arc.

She is an android created by the scientist Hasuu Kihara and serves as his bodyguard during the events of Operation Handcuffs.

Appearance

Ladybird has the appearance of an adolescent girl around the age of 14 or 13. She has long, bright red hair, and red mechanical eyes, which sometimes display images. She wears an orange and black one-piece racing swimsuit with some belts around her thighs.

Personality

Despite being an android, Ladybird has some degree of sentience and is capable of showing emotions, though her default expression is mostly stoic. She can be rather immature at times, and often criticizes Hasuu Kihara for lapses in his judgment. She also lacks any real modesty, and has no compunction about stripping down for maintenance wherever she happens to be. She also tends to rub lubricating fluid all over herself periodically. It's heavily implied Hasuu designed her that way on purpose, something which Ladybird herself points out.

She is shown to be quite merciless and brutal during the events of Operation Handcuffs, killing a great number of people. Despite this, Ladybird isn't actually malicious or cruel, as she's just obeying Hasuu's orders. Moreover, Ladybird thinks of herself as a "pure" android who was made to protect and help people. She admires those who make inefficient choices and values human life. As a result, Ladybird holds great resentment towards the Power Curriculum Program due to the inhuman experiments on children and seeks to make it obsolete.

Intially, Ladybird believed that Hasuu created her in the hopes of stopping children from being sacrificed for esper development research. However, after Hasuu reveals his true nature and the fact that she devours human brains to survive, Ladybird becomes horrified and goes insane.

Biography

Ladybird is an android created by Hasuu Kihara at some point in time.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

  • Android Physiology: Ladybird is a humanoid machine comprised of artificial parts created from scratch without a human base. Her body's structure is modelled on that of a human and she has a similarly designed brain made from cellulose nanofibers. Although her body is modelled on that of a human, the materials and machinery making up the body, along with the "Kihara brand" products and dark side technology, grant her capabilities far beyond a normal person.
    • Immense Strength: Ladybird possesses superhuman strength, being strong enough to throw a person that weighs 40-50kg with ease and wields a blade that too heavy for a normal person to lift. She can also rip apart metal and tear through iron like paper.
    • Superhuman Speed: Ladybird is shown to be extremely fast, able to dodge or deflect bullets easily. When bipedal, her speed and horsepower can rival a V12 engine at maximum RPMs, with an even higher top speed on all fours.
    • Superhuman Durability: Ladybird is highly resilent and durable, able to supress the blast from two grenades with her own body and come out entirely unscathed.
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Ladybird's reaction time is enhanced to a level that is beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete, allowing her to shield herself and Hasuu from bullets with her machete.
    • Esper Power Replication: Ladybird has shown to capability to use esper abilities. This changes whenever new brain matter is introduced due to changes in the rejection and damage pattern. She is able to switch between these powers.
      • Telekinesis: Ladybird is able to influence objects through telekinesis, as seen when she used her power crush several Anti-Skill officers and stop the bullets from their guns. She was also able to bring down a concrete wall.
      • Pyrokinesis: Ladybird is capable of creating powerful flames, as seen when she shot fire at Vivanna Oniguma and Shiage Hamazura.
      • Aerokinesis: Ladybird can create powerful gusts of wind from her hands, best seen during her confrontation with Hamazura in the Vanishing Tunnel. She can use this in conjuction with her pyrokinesis to make the fire spread and become more stronger.

Abilities

  • Hand-to-Hand Combat: Ladybird is shown to be a highly dangerous combatant, as seen during her battles with Shiage Hamazura and Benizome Jellyfish. Combined with her quick reflexes and inhuman strength, Ladybird is able to take on opponents ten times her size.

Equipment

  • Left Arm: A special 60cm machette and Ladybird's primary weapon. It is made of "Saintium", an artificial element said to be 56 times stronger than depleted uranium. It is capable of easily stopping a warship's armor-piercing artillery and can be used to deflect bullets, though it is too heavy for a normal person to wield. However, thanks to her artificial physiology, Ladybird is able to wield Left Arm effortlessly.
