~ J. Geil to Polnareff. |
J. Geil, (also known as J. Gale or Centerfold in various localizations) is a major antagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. The archenemy of Jean Pierre Polnareff and is responsible for the death of his sister, J. Geil is also the son of Enya Geil and one of the mercenaries hired by DIO. J. Geil wields the Stand Hanged Man.
In Japanese, he was voiced by Mugihito in the OVA, Shigeru Chiba in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders drama CD, Yoshito Yasuhara in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle, and Takuya Kirimoto in the anime. In English, he was voiced by Dave Arendash in the OVA and Tom Fahn (who also voiced Skelerena in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Wicked Wisher in Power Rangers Turbo) in the anime.
Biography
A serial murderer and rapist, J. Geil was responsible for the defilement and murder of several women, one of them being Sherry Polnareff, the sister of Jean Pierre Polnareff. Polnareff pursued him wanting revenge, but the only thing he knew about Geil was that he had two right hands. After Polnareff joins Jotaro Kujo in his quest to find DIO, J. Geil teams up with Hol Horse under DIO's group of assassins, wanting to kill Polnareff personally.
Geil encountered the Stardust Crusaders in Kolkata, India and attacked Polnareff in a restaurant bathroom. Realizing his sister's killer was nearby, Polnareff left the Crusaders to try and track down J. Geil. Hol Horse challenged Polnareff to cover his ally. The duo seemingly kills Avdol, who saved Polnareff from Hol Horse, forcing Polnareff to run away with Kakyoin in a stolen truck, but while Hol Horse was willing to accept killing Avdol as enough of a victory and go for the others later, J. Geil chased the two down, intending to finish Polnareff personally.
Geil attacks them in their truck, making them stop the truck and jump out. They notice that J. Geil's Stand attacks from reflective surfaces, jumping from one mirror to another, so the two run off into the desert, away from the truck. Just then, a little boy comes to find out what's going on and the pair realize that Hanged Man is being reflected in the kid's eye. Polnareff gets an idea: promising to make it up to the kid later, he kicks sand in the boy's face forcing him to close his eyes. This forces Hanged Man to jump from the kid's eye to Polnareff's. In the instant it moves, Polnareff attacks with Silver Chariot. The two hear a scream from a ways away and go to find Geil.
They arrive to find a man laying on the ground, bleeding. As Polnareff aims to kill the man, Kakyoin notices that the man has a left hand and tells Polnareff to stop. At that moment, Polnareff is attacked by a knife being thrown into his back. J. Geil calls up a crowd of beggars by promising that Kakyoin and Polnareff are giving out cash. With the two surrounded, Hanged Man can jump between the reflections in their eyes with impunity, and zips from eye to eye, cutting Kakyoin and Polnareff multiple times. Kakyoin pulls out a shiny and reflective coin and throws it into the air. With all the beggars' eyes on the coin, Polnareff throws sand to make them close their eyes and cuts Hanged Man as it makes its move to the shiny coin.
With Hanged Man defeated, Polnareff chases J. Geil down. Silver Chariot skewers Geil numerous times before stabbing him through the mouth and hurling him into the air. Geil lands upside down on a wrought iron fence, being impaled.
Powers and Abilities

“ | Oh, didn't you know? Your Chariot can not cut my Hanged Man. I'm in the mirror, where your Stand can't go. That's why... hahahahahaha!! | „ |
~ J. Geil on his Stand to Polnareff. |
J. Geil's Stand, Hanged Man, is a mummy-like humanoid that exists in reflections. Hanged Man can appear in any reflective surface. While in such a surface the stand can't be harmed in any way, even if the mirror it appears in is completely shattered. On the other hand, if Hanged Man stabs or cuts a person's reflection, that injury is dealt to the actual person. Because Hanged Man is a long range stand, it can stalk and kill its victims even when J. Geil himself is hundreds of meters away.
However, unlike Illuso's Man In The Mirror, Hanged Man does not actually exist in any sort of mirror world. Its true nature is light, which allows it to jump from one reflective surface to another at light speed. The only way to damage Hanged Man, and by extension J. Geil himself, is to predict the path the stand will take between two different reflections, and attack at the moment he moves.

Trivia
- J. Geil is named after the American rock band The J. Geils Band and its guitarist John "J." Geils.
- His dubbed name, "Centerfold", comes from the J. Geils Band song of the same name.
- J. Geil's Stand, Hanged Man, is named after the 12th Tarot card of the major arcana, The Hanged Man, which symbolizes different perspectives.
- Due to the fact that early manga publications in the country were mirror-printed to mimic western comics, in older Italian versions of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, J. Geil was stated to have two left hands, as opposed to two right hands. This was later fixed in later publications as Italian mirror-printing in manga ceased.
- J. Geil is one of the few enemy stand users in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders to actually die after their defeat, instead of simply retiring.
- He's also one of the few minor villains to have his death caused by a member of the main cast, the others being Gray Fly, the Impostor Captain Tennille, Devo, Nena, Pet Shop, and Vanilla Ice.
