The Fire Devil is a major antagonist in Chainsaw Man Part 2: Academy Saga. It is a Devil that embodies the fear of fire and is affiliated with Death Devil. Posing as the Justice Devil, the Fire Devil has played a major role within the Chainsaw Man Church, having made contracts with over 350,000 of its members, as well as Asa's Class Representative, Yuko, and the fake Chainsaw Man.

Biography

Background

The Fire Devil seems to have some kind of connection with Death Devil (under the identity of Fami), as the fake Chainsaw Man is a devotee of the Chainsaw Man Church, which "Fami" secretly runs. If Yuko is to be believed, the Fire Devil goes to the same school as the rest of the cast, strengthening the implicit connection.

Justice Devil Arc

Yuko Justice

The Fire Devil is introduced under the Justice Devil's identity by forming a contract with the Class Representative of Asa Mitaka's class offscreen. Although the terms of the contract aren't clear, the Class Representative formed it out of jealousy, as the teacher she was having sex with, Mr. Tanaka, had taken an interest in Asa. For unknown reasons, the “Justice Devil” told the Class Representative to trip Asa when she was carrying Bucky, so that Asa would cause his death in front of the entire class.

The “Justice Devil” comes up again later when Yuko forms a contract with it off-screen so that she could "save" Asa from her bullies. According to Yuko, the “Justice Devil” asked for nothing in return, only giving her a "heart that shines with the light of justice". Although it isn't explicitly stated, it's implied that the “Justice Devil" caused much of Yuko's murderous behavior, as she describes voices in her head that drowned out her own thoughts. Before Yuko parts ways with Asa after reconciling with her, Yuko warns Asa that the “Justice Devil" goes to their school and to avoid making a contract with it at all costs. Yuko is subsequently killed by the fake Chainsaw Man, another contract of the “Justice Devil”.

Chainsaw Man Church Arc

Barem Bridge would later reveal that the Devil affiliated with the Chainsaw Man Church is not the Justice Devil, but instead the Fire Devil, and that over 350,000 members of the Church had a contract with it.

Powers and Abilities

  • Contract creation: As a Devil, the Fire Devil is able to make "contracts" with humans in which it offers power to them in exchange for something of the human individual. Unlike other devils, however, the Fire Devil seems to ask for nothing in return for its services.
  • Power bestowal: The Fire Devil can grant its contractors supernatural abilities. This is the case for Yuko, who was given mind-reading powers after making a contract with the Devil.
  • Devilization: The Fire Devil appears to grant those it contracts the ability to transform into devils, as this is the case of all three individuals who are known to have interacted with it. The forms that each contract bestows appear to vary significantly for each individual. In the case of the Class Representative, she took on a hulking muscular form with multiple heads. In the case of Yuko, she took on a tall, slender, squid-like appearance with tendrils in place of her legs. Following her defeat at the hands of Asa and , Yuko reverts to a far more humanoid form, although she retains the tendrils over her body. In the case of the fake Chainsaw Man, he appears to take on a form extremely similar to that of Denji's.
  • Brainwashing: It is heavily implied that the Fire Devil alters the minds of those it contracts, making them fanatically obey whatever their personal idea of "justice" may be. In the case of Yuko, she lost contact with her own thoughts as they were drowned out by voices which she believes weren't even hers. It's unknown to what extent the Fire Devil affects the personalities of those it contracts, as Yuko herself admits that she had difficulty empathizing with people even before her contract.
