Varallon [1][2] is a Kaiju who appeared in the final arc of Ultraman Blazar. The ultimate planetary destruction weapon, Varallon was dispatched to Earth as the V99's final attempt to eradicate humankind, and first fought Ultraman Blazar and Earth Garon on the Moon.

Conception
Design
Varallon was designed by Kengo Kusunoki.[3][4] When he was designing Varallon and envisioning its transformation from its First Form to its Second Form, he attempted to make it so that the feel of the kaiju would change completely simply by rotating the parts around like the joints of a soft vinyl toy. However, Kusunoki admitted that it was a difficult process, and eventually he scrapped the idea altogether, leaving only the horns on Varallon's head and its two pincers as remnants of that idea.[5]
History
Ultraman Blazar

Varallon was first discovered by an amateur astronomer who found that its projected trajectory was the same as Bazanga and Gebalga and was thus presumed by the SKaRD to be the Third Wave. It was later discovered that the Taganulars and Deltandals that were appearing across the world were in fact protecting their territory from Varallon. With help from Earth Garon and Ultraman Blazar, the Taganulars were able to fire their fusion beams to intercept Varallon, knocking it off its course and into the Moon. Visitor 99
Varallon began placing bombs on the far side of the Moon with the intent to alter its orbit and have it crash into the planet. Earth Garon Mod. 4 was dispatched on its first space mission to stop Varallon but was intercepted right above the Mendeleev basin, which forced the mecha to engage the kaiju and inadvertently set off its bombs. Earth Garon then entered the crater and switched to ground combat, but was held back against Varallon's might and ultimately incapacitated by its bombs. Gento then transformed into Ultraman Blazar to fight the kaiju, but Varallon quickly dealt with the Ultra due to his weakened state and soon tunneled into the underground to set off more explosives.
At this rate, the Moon would be thrown off orbit. After escorting his teammates to safety, Blazar returned to the Moon and used all his strength to steer it back into orbit. However, this would be at the cost of his life, as Varallon emerged from the underground, bit into Blazar's arm, and siphoned his energy to evolve into its more monstrous Second Form. The kaiju unleashed all of its newfound power and prevailed over the Ultra in a massive explosion. After setting off the last of its bombs to escape the Moon's gravity, Varallon latched onto stray moon rock, and made its way to Earth. The Approaching Third Wave
Varallon descended upon Tokyo, bringing devastation to the city and began planting bombs to alter the Earth's orbit despite humanity's futile resistance. Summoning the last of their strengths, Gento and Blazar transformed into their Firdran Armor, but even that was no match for Varallon. Earth Garon Mod. 4 entered the fray to assist its ally, but even then, the two stood no chance against the space kaiju, and all seemed lost with the untimely arrival of the V99. Fortunately, Emi intervened and convinced the GGF to stand down. While both Blazar and Earth Garon endured Varallon's attacks, Emi relayed her message to the V99 and spoke of the future. Her feelings resonated with those of the V99, who finally relented and returned to the stars.
Nevertheless, Varallon continued to carry out its imperative, but it was now met with the combined forces of the GGF, Earth Garon, and Ultraman Blazar. Overwhelmed, the space kaiju made a last-ditch attempt to set off its bombs, but this ended in failure as the Earth's kaiju devoured its organic bombs. Despite this setback, Varallon managed to take out Earth Garon and charged at the Ultra next, but was ultimately destroyed by Blazar's Blazar Beam in a spectacular finish. Trivia
- Suit actor: Yoshiki Kuwabara
- Varallon and the unknown space object were collectively nicknamed Mitchi-27 Michihiro Oikawa, the amateur astronomer who first discovered it.[6] after
- Varallon has a reversed Showa Godzilla roar mixed into one of its roars.
- Varallon's abdominal buzzsaw may be a reference to Gigan's Rotating Cutter.
- According to Kengo Kusunoki, the spikes on Varallon's abdomen were personally drawn with the idea that it was "an omen to an unknown third form".[7]
Data

First Form
is Varallon's original appearance.- Stats
- Height: 55 m[1]
- Weight: 66,000 t[1]
- Origin: Space
- Weakness: Despite the incredible power of Varallon's Organic Bombs, their biological nature means the weapons can be neutralised if they are consumed by other monsters.
- Powers and Weapons
- Strange Beam [2][8]: Varallon can unleash red lightning bolts from its eyes/head, its claws, and the spines on its back.
- Organic Bomb [2]: Varallon can place down or fire off organic bombs that spawn near the tip of its tail. It detonates these bombs remotely when a flash of light runs through its head.[1] When detonated in groups, the bombs can knock celestial bodies out of orbit, which both serves as Varallon's method of traveling through space and allows it to cause mass destruction through planetary collisions.
- Buzzsaw [8]: Varallon has a rotating buzzsaw built into its abdominal area.
- Burrowing: Varallon can burrow underground to plant its bombs. Notably, it was able to burrow from one side of the Moon to the other in the span of seconds.
- Energy Consumption: Varallon can consume the energy of its opponents by biting into them and siphoning the energy directly. It evolved into its Second Form after absorbing Blazar's energy.
- Travel Sphere: Varallon concealed itself in a pocket of warped space, sustained by the energy generated from the four appendages on its back, to make its way to Earth undetected. However, it disintegrated upon being hit by two Taganulars' fusion beams.
- Intelligence: Varallon is surprisingly tactical, able to make plans. It had tricked the GGF by prematurely detonating its organic bombs, and later lured Blazar into a trap forcing him to exert himself to easily finish him off.[9]

Second Form
is Varallon's evolved form after absorbing Ultraman Blazar's power.- Stats
- Height: 60 m
- Weight: 69,000 t
- Origin: Space
- Weakness: Despite the incredible power of Varallon's Organic Bombs, their biological nature means the weapons can be neutralised if they are consumed by other monsters.
- Powers and Weapons
- Lightning Beam: Varallon fires a destructive beam from its mouth.
- Strange Beam [2][8]: Varallon can unleash red lightning bolts from its eyes/head, its claws, and the spines on its back. They can also be used to surround itself in a spherical barrier, which blocked Earth Garon's Earth Fire at "max power" effortlessly.
- Organic Bomb [2]: Varallon can place down or fire off organic bombs that spawn near the tip of its tail. It detonates these bombs remotely when a flash of light runs through its head.[1] These bombs are much more powerful individually in its Second Form.
- Electric Claws: Varallon charges its claws with red electricity to increase their damage in melee.
