Eclipse

Eclipse (エクリプス, Ekuripusu) is the thirtieth episode of Ultraman Cosmos. It also features the first appearance of Cosmos's Eclipse Mode.

Plot

After his battle with Chaos Header Mebut, Cosmos loses the energy of light and falls inert. Musashi, with the cooperation of his friends, shine a light on Cosmos, but due to a rare full solar eclipse lasting over seven minutes, which happens once in thousands of years, they can’t seem to gather enough light…

Trivia

• This episode marks the first appearance of Cosmos's Eclipse form. According to producer Hiroyasu Shibuya, the concept was inspired by the idea that "courage can create miracles." The team aimed to visually convey this message, leading to the creation of this new form as a symbol of courage. During the rare phenomenon of a total eclipse, Cosmos radiates brilliance, while Musashi’s actions reflect a return to the innocence of his childhood. This episode also signifies the beginning of the latter half of the series and is considered a pivotal moment in the overall storyline.^[2]
• The location where Musashi and Cosmos separate is believed to be the same forest park featured in Ultraman Cosmos: The First Contact. However, the episode does not provide a specific explanation regarding this connection.
