- "Amusing how all of your efforts amounted to nothing."
- ―Pyre, to Kazuda Xiono
Pyre was a human male who served in the Stormtrooper Corps of the Army of the First Order as an officer and Stormtrooper Commander during the era of the New Republic. He worked closely with First Order Security Bureau Agent Tierny to track down the Resistance, specifically one of their cells headquartered in the supertanker fuel depot Colossus built by the Galactic Empire. He later perished aboard his and Tierny’s vessel, the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Thunderer.
Biography
Commander in the First Order Army
- "When Major Vonreg and Commander Pyre first proposed the idea of collaborating with pirates, I was skeptical. Since then, you have done little to prove me wrong."
- ―Phasma, to Kragan Gorr

Pyre was a human male who served as an officer and stormtrooper commander in the Stormtrooper Corps in the Army of the First Order during the Cold War between the First Order and the galactic government, the New Republic and the Resistance, a paramilitary force[7] allied with the New Republic.[8] He and Major Elrik Vonreg proposed to Captain Phasma that the First Order collaborate with pirates, which led to a partnership with Captain Kragan Gorr and the Warbird gang. The plan was for them to attack the supertanker fuel depot Colossus on the ocean planet Castilon in the Western Reaches of the Mid Rim Territories enough so Captain Imanuel Doza ceded control of it to the First Order as part of the plan to use the others built by their predecessor, the Galactic Empire, as part of a military supply line to refuel their fleets for their upcoming War with the Resistance. After a failed attack by the pirates, Kragan reported to Phasma and Vonreg, where Phasma stated her disappointment to Kragan and remarked she was skeptical from the beginning of the idea.[4]
Searching for Kel and Eila
- "We'll only ask this once. Where are the children?"
- ―Pyre, to the Chelidae

Later, Pyre and two additional stormtroopers were sent to the Colossus in search of two young fugitives, Kel and Eila, who escaped the destruction the First Order had wrought on their village on the planet Tehar. Pyre and his troopers arrived via Upsilon-class command shuttle and began searching the marketplace. Pyre questioned the residants on the location of the fugitives. The commander eventually spots the Kel and Eila with Kazuda Xiono, a mechanic who is unbeknownst to Pyre a Resistance spy.
Pyre and his troops chased the fugitives across the station, eventually cornered them in the engineering room, where Kel declared he and his sister would rather die than be captured before apparently leaping to their deaths. Afterwards, Pyre reported to Phasma that his mission was complete, as the children were "no more." Unbeknownst to Pyre, Kazuda Xiono, his friend Neeku Vozo, and the Chelidae engineering staff faked Kel and Eila's deaths and the former reported the incident to Resistance pilot Ello Asty who passed it along to the leader of the Resistance, General Leia Organa.[3]
Discussing sanctions
- "This sanction will allow First Order to secure both your platform and skies. We'll find these pirates and eliminate them. To the benefit of both our parties…Don't take too long, Captain. We expect your answer soon."
- ―Pyre, to Imanuel Doza

Following another pirate attack on the station, Captain Doza called Pyre to ask to look over the proposal he and Major Vonreg had to offer to make the pirate raids stop. The First Order officer replied that was excellent news and he would arrive to discuss it.[10]
Pyre returned to the Colossus, where he met with Doza to discuss sanctions that would allow the First Order to leave a garrison on the station to protect them from the pirates. When asked how many stormtroopers would be stationed, Pyre assured Doza there would be enough to stave off any further threats and his men were more than capable of eliminating them. Doza then inquired to how long the occupation would last, to which Pyre replied it was difficult to map out a timeline, citing pirates can be unpredictable. The meeting concluded when Doza said he would need time to review the sanctions before coming to a decision. Pyre advised him not to too take long, for he was expecting an answer soon, then was escorted off the station.[9]
As Pyre was about to board his shuttle, Jace Rucklin came running up, asking to speak with Doza about Xiono breaking into his office to make a copy of the First Order’s proposal at the order of his mentor Commander Poe Dameron. When asked if there was anything that should concern him, Doza assured Pyre it was nothing he could not handle so he departed the Colossus afterwards.[9]
Attempted theft of a phase connector
- "Teroj."
"Commander Pyre. I failed to secure the phase connector. My mission was sabotaged, and the goods were destroyed."
"That is unfortunate. Captain Phasma will not be pleased. Report back at once." - ―Teroj Kee and Pyre

Pyre later sent mercenary Teroj Kee with a pair of stormtroopers to the Colossus to acquire a phase connector from the Office of Acquisitions while its owners, Orka and Flix, were absent. Since the phase connector was already preordered for a mining colony offworld, Kee stole it. Kee later reported to Pyre that his transport carrying the device was sabotaged and destroyed. Pyre stated this turn of events was unfortunate and Phasma would not be pleased before ordering Kee to return at once with his men.[11]
Kidnapping of Torra Doza
- "You will take something precious from Captain Doza until he relinquishes the station."
"And what would that be?"
"Something that is very close to him." - ―Pyre and Kragan Gorr, on abducting Torra Doza
Pyre and Phasma conversed with Kragan, having grown impatient that his raids on the Colossus failed to make Captain Doza begging for their help. Gorr demanded triple payment to compensate for his losses or he would back out of their deal. With a nod from Phasma, Pyre instructed Gorr to kidnap Captain Doza’s daughter Torra to force him to relinquish the station.[12]
After Gorr's inside agent on the Colossus helped abduct Torra, Pyre sent Vonreg to deliver Gorr’s payment when in truth it was to pull a double cross and fake a rescue and give his regards. The ruse convinced Doza to allow the First Order to leave a garrison on the Colossus, as well earning goodwill among some of the residents.[12]
Occupation of the Colossus
Searching for a pirate spy
- "Our job is simply to maintain order."
- ―Pyre to Imanuel Doza, on the Colossus occupation
Pyre later communicated with Captain Doza, who complained his stormtroopers were undermining his authority. The ex-Imperial officer reminded the First Order was to remain only until after the pirates were dealt with. Pyre argued the First Order was doing what was necessary to protect the Colossus and its residents and insisted Doza needed their protection and not to forget that with his bodyguard droid 4D-M1N but the Captain was angry about it since he realized how evil the Empire was before he defected.[14]
Searching for a pirate accomplice

Shortly afterwards, Pyre arrived to meet with Captain Doza who informed him the pirate spy he was looking for escaped and thus he believed there was no need to keep so many stormtroopers on the Colossus. Pyre argued someone on the platform aided in her escape and stated he would find them. Doza then stressed he was still in command, to which Pyre was forced to agree.[13]
Pyre later inquired Doza as to why he left the Empire years ago. Doza insisted it was a personal choice and Pyre would not understand even if he explained why. Just then, Sergeant CS-812 and his squadron entered Doza's office. Pyre requested Doza leave so he could speak with his stormtroopers in private. As soon as Doza left, Pyre was informed by Phasma that a full garrison was armed and on its way to the Colossus and instructed sympathizers on the platform may remain while the dissidents shall be arrested or otherwise "dealt with."[13]
Pyre then demanded their personal reports and CS-812 volunteered CS-515, who summarized his patrol in an unprofessional manner. Having been earlier informed by CS-812 suspecting CS-515's conditioning to be erratic, Pyre ordered the defective stormtrooper be brought to their transport for a full mental wipe and reprogramming. CS-515 soon escaped, in which CS-812 initiated pursuit. CS-515 was eventually captured, though the First Order was unaware Xiono replaced him earlier to cover an incident with Kel and Eila.[13]
Taking control
Later, while the Colossus was hosting a race, Pyre communicated with Doza via hologram, insisting the races held a security risk. When Doza defended the benefits of "positive morale" outweighed the risk, Pyre asked if he knew how the pirates were able to infiltrate the Colossus, to which Doza reminded so long as he was in charge, so were the races allowed to continue. Pyre then conceded, but promised the discussion was not over.[5]

Pyre later returned to the Colossus once more to meet with Doza again, stating he wanted to brief him on security matters and insisted he cancel all races until further notice. Though Doza protested that this would jeopardize the station's livelihood and community, Pyre said he understood but refuted that with the First Order defending the station, he could not risk an accident with undisciplined non-military pilots in the air. Doza was ultimately forced to concede to Pyre's demands, knowing that openly defying the First Order would put his constituents at risk.[5]
Pyre later led a group of stormtroopers to Jarek Yeager's Repair Station, where he found Team Fireball, except for Xiono. Once he and his astromech droid CB-23 entered the hangar, Pyre told him that he and his friends under arrest by command of the First Order since his racer was caught by Major Vonreg flying in the Dassal system in the forbidden Sector Epsilon 51-3 of the Unknown Regions with Dameron two days ago.[5]
However, Kaz and his friends managed to escaped from Pyre and his stormtroopers except for Tamara Ryvora, who surrendered because she was sympathetic to the First Order due to being too young to understand how evil the Empire was. Later, Pyre took control of the Colossus, arresting Captain Doza for "insubordination" and shot 4D-M1N when she was ordered to stop the First Order.[15]
Battle of Castilon
When Xiono and his Resistance cell retook the Colossus, Pyre and First Order Security Bureau Agent Tierny tried to stop him from getting away again but failed and fled with Ryvora who joined the First Order.[16]
In the aftermath, he returned to his Resurgent-class Star Destroyer the Thunderer with Agent Tierny. Captain Phasma ordered them to destroy the Colossus to keep it from falling into General Organa’s grasp since it was a valuable resource to her and warned him the consequences of failure would be their deaths which she would personally oversee. Pyre then inducted Ryvora into the First Order as a TIE fighter pilot cadet codenamed DT-533.[17]
Ventures following the Battle of Castilon
After Ryvora joined the First Order, she turned in her comlink, which Pyre was able to use and find the location of the Colossus which was orbiting D'Qar. They caught the Colossus cell in the middle of salvaging coaxium from the Fulminatrix, which got destroyed following the Battle of D'Qar. Though they almost got it, the Colossus was able to escape at the right time.[18]
In their efforts to destroy the Resistance, Pyre worked closely with the disgraced officer General Armitage Hux, whom he met before, in a planet-by-planet sweep, killng everyone who opposed the First Order.[19] At another point, Hux and Pyre were both to attend an important meeting aboard the Titan, a supertanker fuel depot in the service of the First Order. Prior to the meeting, Lieutenant Galek mentioned Pyre's meeting to Rvyora, as her flight instructor wanted her and Rucklin, codenamed DT-798, to go on a supply run to the station. Unknown to them, Xiono, Vozo, and CB-23 were also aboard, as they were undercover to steal a trans-binary deflector for the Colossus. However, Xiono, due to his disguise as a technician, was separated from his compatriots by Hux, as the officer needed a guide to take him to the tower briefing room since the crew was unable to provide proper directions. Once their turbolift arrived, Pyre stood outside its door and greeted the General, making Xiono hide his face behind his datapad and disguise his voice. Pyre apologized for not meeting Hux directly upon arrival, explaining that they had not expected to have a meeting aboard the Titan on such short notice.[20]
In response, Hux said Supreme Leader Kylo Ren wanted an update on the First Order's stock of refueling stations and hunt for the Resistance cells. After being asked for the truth, Pyre confirmed he had difficulties in acquiring a few, mentioning that one had become the headquarters of a Resistance cell, although he stated new intelligence would give them the chance to destroy it. Hux demanded he make it happen and there should be no more excuses, as he wanted every Resistance cell in the galaxy quashed and the Stormtrooper Commander said he understood after being asked. Once at the tower briefing room, Hux, Pyre, and the latter's stormtroopers entered, but Xiono was left outside, allowing him to reunite with his allies. After doing so, he warned Vozo that Pyre was aboard, meaning they needed to leave before he recognized them.[20]

CB-23 learned the deflector they needed was in the hyperdrive chamber, which the three eventually made it to. However, CB-23 was spotted by Rucklin, leading him to the hyperdrive chamber as well. Recognizing Xiono from his time on the Colossus, he informed security about their presence. In the meeting, Pyre mentioned that, planet by planet, security was moving in the last of the Resistance cells, but the station's security alarm soon interrupted the conference. After Hux demanded to know what was happening, Pyre was informed there had been a Code Three in Engineering, which upseted Hux, as the Stormtrooper Commander stated the Titan was secure. After Xiono and Vozo, who had managed to take the deflector, made it to sector 1305's blast door, Pyre, two stormtroopers, and Hux spotted them. Pyre was surprised to see Xiono again, although he needed to tell Hux that Xiono was a Resistance spy. Pyre ordered the stormtroopers to fire, but CB-23, who was currently in the hangar, closed the blastdoor to save Xiono and Vozo. Hux demanded they get the blast door open, but the two Resistance agents escaped to the hangar. Hux and Pyre did make it to the hangar, but they were unable to stop Xiono, Vozo, and CB-23 from entering an AAL-1971/9.1 Troop Transport.[20]
Pyre was one of the stormtroopers who fired on their transport and ordered to not let them escape, but the Resistance forces managed to escape to lightspeed. Afterwards, Hux demanded to know why Pyre could let the infiltration happen, he stated it was of no consequence, as they took the defector, making him believe the Colossus was becoming desperate. In response, Hux told the Stormtrooper Commander that desperation could be a dangerous thing, and reiterated the late Captain Phasma's orders for him and Tierny to find and destroy the Colossus. Pyre then contacted Tierny and informed her Xiono was on the Titan, stole a binary deflector, and escaped. She asked if Ryvora contacted him, making Pyre say she was reportedly with Rucklin who turned them in. After hearing this, Tierny noted if they worked the situation correctly, Ryvora could help them destroy the station.[20]
Battle on Aeos Prime
After sending out probe droids, Pyre found of from one of them that the Colossus took refuge in the Aeos system when he and Tierny got an image of Xiono. After tracking down the ship, he sent TIEs and TIE/se Bombers after them, but the ship still managed to escape. When Tierny said General Hux will be furious about the Colossus escaping from their grips again, Pyre told her that he was not concerned about the disgraced officer but Supreme Leader Ren.[21]
Final stand and death

In retaliation for helping the Colossus, Agent Tierny and Commander Pyre participated in the suppression of the Aeos system with thirteen Resurgent-class Star Destroyers. Pyre and Tierny reported the suppression to General Hux via hologram in her office, but he moved aside and Supreme Leader Ren addressed them. Ren made it known that he wanted the Resistance’s Colossus cell destroyed and used the Force to make them to stand and aim their blasters at each other, wanting them to understand that he would not tolerate anymore failures and was only giving them one more chance.[6]
Once Ryvora betrayed the First Order and Rucklin revealed the location of the Colossus, the final hunt began. Pyre fought Xiono and his friends during the final hunt and the Thunderer once again fought the Colossus. He tried to kill Xiono with a Laser ax, but CB-23 stopped him soon after. Pyre then managed to badly damage CB-23 before he was defeated by Xiono, who knocked him unconscious with a deactivated laser ax and the Thunderer exploded destroying it, killing him along with Rucklin and the crew[22] while Tierny met her end at the hand of Leader Ren for the cell's survival.[6]
Equipment

Pyre wore gold-plated stormtrooper armor and a black pauldron, and utilized a gold-plated F-11D blaster rifle.[3]
Behind the scenes
- "Aside from Phasma, we also have the character Pyre, who is her sort of second-in-command. He needed to look unique as well, and we didn't want to stick with a silver theme, so I think it was fun that we brought in the gold. It makes him really distinct from her and the rest of the troopers."
- ―Amy Beth Christenson on the development of Pyre
Pyre is a character created for the animated series Star Wars Resistance. He is voiced by Liam McIntyre.[3] The black-and-gold color scheme for Pyre's armor was chosen by the show's creator, Dave Filoni. Writer and executive producer Brandon Auman felt that the color scheme was likely in reference to the Pittsburgh Steelers,[24] Filoni's hometown football team.[25]
