- "We're privateers. Individuals for hire. The price is high but we are very good at what we do."
- ―Axe Woves

A privateer was a legitimized pirate, a private person or starship commissioned by an authority to fight or harass enemy vessels[2] under a letter of marque.[3] In the Anoat sector, the Trade Spine League was half-union, half-privateer network.[4]
Privateers were typically given authority to conduct their operations by a governmental authority against enemies deemed hostile to that authority through a letter of marque.[3]
Axe Woves and his fragment of the Mandalorian resistance became privateers[1] around 9 ABY.[5]
