"To the Senate Chamber. There's a 100 credit tip if you get me there double quick!"
―Kalen[1]

Kalen was a delegate of the Galactic Senate during the reign of the Galactic Republic. During Kalen's first visit to the Republic capital planet Coruscant, where the senate was based, he jumped into an open-topped air taxi while late for an appointment, becoming a famous exception to the fact that most experienced air taxi passengers prefered blacked out windows. Kalen then told the driver to take him to the Senate Chamber, which was located in the Galactic Senate Building, offering 100 credits extra if the driver got him there swiftly. The driver complied and was more than fast enough to earn the bonus, but Kalen perished from a fatal heart attack during the journey and so was unable to pay.[1]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, Kalen was mentioned in "Coruscant," an entry in De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia series[1] that was released on February 9, 2021.[2] The character originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, created by author Iain Lowson,[3] where he was first mentioned in the first issue of De Agostini's 2001 run of The Official Star Wars Fact File magazine,[4] which was published on December 27, 2001.[5]
