Xelles are a rare species of Krawl that resemble a fungus/flower hybrid. They are immobile and do not actually attack, but rather spawn and replenish the health of other Krawl to protect themselves. The species has appeared in both Spectrobes and Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, being of the Corona and Dark properties, respectively.

Appearance

Xelles primarily appear to resemble large fungi, but also have characteristics of flowers and other plants. Their size can vary, but are often seen to have grown to be much larger than Rallen. Xelles have a large protrusion in the center (likely a Stigma), and various other plant-like tubes growing out of their main body. They are known to have enormous, branching, underground root systems, and the ability to release large bursts of spores. They are usually colored in shades of yellow and orange-brown, like many fungi.

Notable Xelles

  • In Spectrobes, a Xelles called Thoraxa is found in the underground chamber of Meido. It had grown so large that its roots were holding the planet together. It is used as the replenishment source for all Krawl, as Krawl come back to life when in contact with Xelles spores. In the game, Thoraxa notably revives the downed Otorso into Goblada after Rallen defeats it.
  • In Spectrobes: Beyond The Portals, a single, large Xelles is protected by the High Krawl Maja in the ruined city on the planet Nox. It is implied that this Xelles was the one that aided in destroying Nox, just as Thoraxa was doing to Meido in the previous game.
    • Additionally, an untold number of now dead Xelles had colonized the surface of Nox's inner crescent, formerly the mantle and core of the planet.

Battle

  • The Xelles in Spectrobes (Thoraxa) continuously spawns many Zepi during its battle. These Zepi are weak and mostly a distraction, but are the Xelles' only form of offence. It will heal itself often.
  • In Spectrobes: Beyond the Portals, the Xelles relies solely on Maja for offense, and only contributes by healing the pair when needed.

Trivia

The root systems of multiple Xelles have been shown to possess unparalleled tensile strength, enough to physically hold planets together against the pull of gravity. Meido and Nox were both Krawl-ruined planets that would have otherwise collapsed if not for the Xelles present there.
