Gu Rong

Gu Rong is a Titled Douluo known as the Bone Douluo. He is one of the two Titled Douluos who is associated with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan.

Appearance

Gu Rong is an old man with a withered face. He is not robust or muscular but still has a very astonishing stature clearly exuding his power. His muscles and skin are both withered, his eye sockets are deep caves, and if seen late at night it would simply be like an immense cranium. On his scalp is only a few sparse wisps of white or grey hair. His horrible height is nearly 2.5 meters, and with his hoarse voice, he looks even more horrible.

Personality

Gu Rong being the Bone Douluo has an imposing personality. Among Titled Douluos he is considered to be the most secretive. He dotes on Ning Rongrong and cannot resist spoiling her, even allowing her to threaten him to make him do what she wants.

Plot

Gu Rong's Past (Extra Chapter 8) and joining the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan

Gu Rong was an orphan who lived on the streets, surviving by panhandling (Being a beggar). The harsh environment and the way people treated him and other homeless individuals—as if they were useless and disgusting—meant he rarely smiled. This treatment changed when he awakened his Bone Dragon Martial Spirit. Suddenly, people who once ignored or scorned him became interested and tried to coerce him into joining them for their own benefit. Realizing that people hypocritically used their smiles to hide their true feelings and ulterior motives, Gu Rong decided to adopt a similar facade. He resolved to smile while using his talent and strength to rise above them.

Years later, Gu Rong became known as one of the strongest masters of his generation. By the time he reached 55 years old, he was a Rank 89 Spirit Douluo, struggling to break through to the Rank 90 Titled Douluo. Despite numerous attempts, he couldn't grasp what he was missing for the breakthrough.

At this critical juncture, he was approached by Ning Fengzhi, the new sect master of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Clan. Unlike his predecessor, Ning Fengzhi offered to help Gu Rong with his breakthrough. He shared that he understood the true meaning behind Gu Rong's smile and saw it as a testament to his strength and sense of responsibility. This insight made Gu Rong realize the nature of the heart demon that had been hindering him.

With this newfound understanding, Gu Rong succeeded in overcoming his bottleneck and reached the Rank of a Titled Douluo. Following this revelation, he willingly accepted the role of an elder in the sect and chose to shoulder some of the sect master's responsibilities.

Shrek Academy

Gu Rong awaits with Ning Rongrong for the return of Ning Fengzhi and Chen Xin. He is amazed with Ning Rongrong's growth in Spirit Power over the short period of time.

He visits the Shrek Academy with Ning Fengzhi and Ning Rongrong and put a stop to the on-going battle between Tang San and Tai Tan. He then frowns upon Ning Fengzhi when he offers the 5 million deal for the construction of Hidden Weapons.

Spirit Hall Attacks

When the Spirit Hall attacks, he along with Chen Xin and Ning Fengzhi manages to put up a fight and drive them back. Gu Rong's right arm is injured during the fight and remains limp. Then they arrive at the Shrek Academy to warn Yu Xiaogang and then heads off to meet with the Emperor Xue Ye.

Gu Rong accompanies Ning Fengzhi to meet with Tang San. He is rather surprised by Tang San's change in appearance and the presence of an innate domain. Later when they meet with Oscar, Gu Rong approves of his power after he fights Ma Hongjun to a tie.

Heaven Dou Palace Rebellion

Rongrong asks Gu Rong to watch over Shrek Academy while they travel to Gengxin City. When the Spirit Hall members attack again, despite having lost some of his strength, with the help of the members of Tang Sect, they manage to gain victory. Afterwards Gu Rong laments that he is inferior to Chen Xin is due to his lacking in comprehension.

He is rather reluctant to let Rongrong leave with the Shrek Seven Devils to Sea God Island but Ning Fengzhi states that it is for the best.

Differences in the Manhua

• In the Manhua Gu Rong disrupts the fight between Tang San and Tai Tan by sending Tai Tan into a different dimension using his spirit ability.
• He also joins in the battle when the Shrek Seven Devils are attacked by Gui Mei and Yue Guan.
• He has a much younger appearance in the Manhua.
