Plot

Gui Mei's Past (Extra Chapter 10)

Gui Mei's life was marked by suffering and neglect. His mother constantly berated him, calling him weak and useless, while the villagers ignored him, and the other children mocked and mistreated him. One day, taunted by a peer who called him a coward, Gui Mei was dared to jump into the deep lake near their village. Desperate to prove himself, he complied and jumped, slowly drowning in the cold depths.

As he sank, Gui Mei encountered a demon in the lake, initially intent on devouring him. However, the demon sensed that the spirit others deemed useless was actually the Ghost Fire, a rare spirit originating from demonic power. Instead of consuming him, the demon proposed a deal: he would grant Gui Mei immense power if he agreed to kill everyone in the village. Though initially hesitant, the memories of his tormented past led Gui Mei to accept.

The demon fused with Gui Mei, mutating his Combat Spirit and imbuing him with extraordinary power. Consumed by newfound strength and vengeance, he unleashed a devastating inferno upon the village, watching as it was engulfed in flames. As the villagers suffered, Gui Mei's personality seemed to transform. He asserted dominance over the demon, declaring it merely a tool for his ascent to power.

Gazing into the lake one final time, Gui Mei saw the reflection of his former self. The image accused him of murder. Tears streamed down his face as he acknowledged the truth: by embracing the demon's power and exacting his revenge, he had killed the boy he once was. “Yes,” he whispered, “I killed myself.”
