Earthia (アーシア Āshia?) is a character from the anime series Sonic X. She was the mother of Cosmo and Galaxina and wife of Lucas, the latter who would become known as the leader of the Metarex, Dark Oak.[2]
Appearance
Earthia was a humanoid plant-like alien with pale peach skin and powder blue eyes with one long eyelash on each one. She possessed long pale cyan hair with a pair of bangs and a large white flower with a yellow center and a pair of long light green sepals on top of her head. For attire, she wears a kimono-styled long-sleeved dress with a white blouse bearing yellow trim and an ankle-length and petal-like white skirt bearing light green tips with a few light green oval-shaped spots flecked above them, her Blessed Amulet on her chest, white tights and pale cyan ballerina flats.[2]
History
Anime
Past
Long ago, Earthia came into conflict when her husband, Lucas who wanted to stay and continue fighting on their planet, despite losing a war against an unknown enemy. Earthia wanted to leave, feeling far too many males have already died and more continued to die wasting their lives on a hopeless struggle. However, being a warrior himself, Lucas refused to leave and alongside the majority of males in his race, they stayed behind to fight rather than leave. Ultimately deeming Lucas and his supporters mad, Earthia chose to take with her the entire female population of her species and abandon the planet. Before leaving, Earthia came across Lucas trying to harness the energy of the very Planet Egg of their own planet and was horrified to see him sacrifice so much for this meaningless fight. Calling out Lucas for his betrayal, Earthia feared the lengths he would go to win and so she ordered the remaining males to be destroyed via a nuclear strike that destroyed what remained of their dying world, killing all but a few survivors. Living together with her family and fellow females, Earthia eventually took on a form of a giant tree and would end up giving birth to her last child, Cosmo. As she grew weaker, Earthia was ultimately killed when her husband, now taking on the identity of Dark Oak found her ship and attacked and killed everyone on board, except for Cosmo.[3]
Legacy
Metarex Saga
Earthia would later appear in a holographic image on her abandoned planet that Amy and Rouge discovered, displaying how the planet fell. At the final moment of the forestation project, Earthia appears to Cosmo and tells her what to do, and suddenly, Cosmo's amulet shatters. Her last appearance is when Dark Oak has been defeated; suddenly a light (which is Earthia) appears to him and says that they have a second chance before disappearing with him in a flash of light.[4]
Personality
From what was seen in flashbacks, Earthia was a serious and stern leader that cared about her people, as seen when she proposes to evacuate Green Gate in order for her subjects to survive. But at the same time, she also cared about the environment and plant life around her, evident when she gets furious at Lucas when he uses Green Gate's Planet Egg just so they could stay in their Mover Mode. She was also really selfless and was willing to transform in order to secure the future of her species.
Powers and abilities
Earthia can produce healing seeds and control other plants. She can also create force fields by using her Blessed Amulet, which are invulnerable to harm. Lastly, she has the ability to levitate.[2]
Relationships
Lucas
While they may have loved each other at first, its clear that after their conflicting ideals on what to do about their ongoing war, Lucas and Earthia started to hate what the other had become, with both of them accussing the other of being a traitor. However, Earthia was willing to reach out to Lucas before going into the afterlife.[4]
Cosmo
Not much is shown of their relationship since Earthia was transformed by the time she was born, but it's clear that she saw Cosmo as their last hope of saving the universe. Though it could be debated that Earthia never really cared about Cosmo, so much as only seeing her as a means to an end.

- Earthia was once credited with the name "Hertia" in the 4Kids Entertainment dub of the series.
- In the Latin American dub, Earthia was renamed "Terra", which is Latin for "Earth".
