The All-Star Item[1] is an object that appears in the Sega All-Stars series. It is a special Pickup item that, once picked up, triggers the respective character's All-Star Move.
The All-Star Item is illustrated with a certain icon which differs between games. As its name implies, it allows the player to utilize their All-Star Move in a race when picked up.
In gameplay, the All-Star Item can be obtained randomly from Capsules during regular race tracks. However, it can only be obtained by racers that are in a specific place in the current race. Capsules with the All-Star Item has no special design that distinguishes it from others, although its icon appears in the upper right of the screen once obtained.

Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
In Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, the All-Star Item can only be obtained by racers in the forth place or any position below that during a race. When activating it, a short cutscene plays where the racer initiates his All-Star Move. From there, the All-Star Item will last for about fifteen seconds. Those who utilizes their All-Star Item will gain a star behind their icon on the racing meter. In addition, the appearance of the All-Star Item's icon depends on each racer:
In Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, the All-Star Item is a five-pointed golden star. In this game, it can only be obtained by racers within 10th to 2nd place during a race.
The All-Star Item is easier to get in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and its effects will not be negated if the player falls to a bottomless pit. However, the time of consumption has been decreased by two or three seconds. During the Battle Race, Battle Arena, or Capture the Chao, the All-Star Item is not available.
