The Moon is a transformed version of The End dimension. Players can access the Moon by travelling to the Northern End Portal or Southern End Portal located at the global magnetic poles on the server.
Hints of the Moon Update
Day 27
VoiceOverPete, while inside Technoblade's Palace at the Port-aux-Francais, was asked by JoshA20 to "come outside and give a quick hop". Pete, unable to infer what Josh said, did so anyway. He ended up jumping into the air higher than usual but experienced quite a lag in the process. Josh then asked Pete to walk around and inquired how it felt, to which Pete replied: "feels good". The effect was considerably weaker once he got out of the hexa-beacon's jump boost radius, yet he seems quite lighter than the usual as he skipped and floated off the surface.
Josh said in-game chat that he "may or may not be testing moon gravity" and to see how laggy this effect would be on players. A clip of this event can be seen here. Pete was rewarded 6 stacks of glass and a stack of sea lanterns for this experiment.
Day 32
Eret made a brief comment in the SMPEarth Discord suggesting that Josh could be working on making the End into the Moon. Some speculate that this was why Chip was preventing players from reaching the end. Eret later deleted his message, saying "you saw nothing".
Day 37
On December 28th, a tweet was posted on the official SMPEarth Twitter account, teasing a picture of 'moonrock' which hints to a possible Moon update.
Day 38
The moon gravity was again tested on the overworld, affecting most of the players on the server at the time. (SMPEarth Moon Landing )
Day 39
On December 30th, at 10 AM EST, a tweet was posted on the official SMPEarth Twitter that said "5 hours". Josh later tweeted on his own account about how confusing it was for him that no one figured out what "5 hours" was supposed to mean.
At exactly 12 PM PST, Josh revealed the premiere of a 15-second video announcing the Moon update. Unfortunately, he had misspelled Official as "offical", causing many in the SMPEarth Discord to tease him for that. The thumbnail was later changed to hide this error, but the typo is still visible on the video. Nevertheless, the video teased on the significant alteration of the End dimension now referred to as the Moon. New features are added including moon gravity and a modified moon dragon. (A.K.A Big Bertha) The update is expected to launch on January 5th at these times: 1 pm PST, 9 pm GMT, 4 pm EST.
Earlier, Josh was spotted on the server somewhere in the Arctic region, constructing some codes in the ice. The code was 92M_7TIKPGM made of stones and placed on the ice shelf at roughly (6400, -540). It was later found to be part of the teaser video's URL.
Day 40
During the negotiations between JoshA20 and the members of Business Bay following Josh's shocking defeat in The God War, Josh reduced the gravity for all players on the server for a short period of time. All of the players suddenly jumped and walked as if they were walking on the moon, inferring that Josh provided a teaser for the upcoming update.
Day 45
Main article: SMPEarth Moon Landing
SMPEarth Moon Landing takes place with more than 20 players taking part. It results in the death of Big Bertha and the discovery and exploration of The Moon Octangula and The Hidden Moon Base.
Three new Dragon Eggs are created, with their original owners being Technoblade, CaptainSparklez, and Sneegsnag. Wilbur would steal the Fourth Dragon Egg from Sneeg and Phil prompting The Dragon Egg War.
Following the exploration of the Moon Central Island, factions set off towards The outer Moon cities, aiming to acquire Elytras, Shulker Boxes, Dragon Heads, and Chorus Fruit.
