The Chosen, whose real name is Spencer Agnew, is a character portrayed by Shayne Topp, introduced in September 2020 in the video Playing Blackjack in Viva Smosh Vegas!. He has made appearances in numerous Smosh, Smosh Pit, and Smosh Games videos. The Chosen serves as a parody of the archetype of the typically middle school boys, who believe themselves to be akin to the main characters in the media they consume. He is characterized as misunderstood and harboring a sense of self-perceived power.
Personality and Appearance
When examining The Chosen's personality, it becomes apparent that it can be deconstructed into two distinct layers: the outward persona he aspires to present and the concealed truth hidden beneath. On the surface, he strives to exude the image of a resilient and modest warrior, wholly committed to advancing the cause of all humanity. However, beneath this facade, one can discern glimpses of a self-important, insecure individual at a younger age. In the "The Trials of the Chosen" Twitch Stream The Chosen revealed that he is part of a group of Chosens, all chosen for their skills by other Chosens. The exact number of Chosens is uncertain, as many prefer to keep their status undisclosed. Confirmed Chosens include notable individuals like Taylor Lautner, Jean Claude van Damme, Keanu Reeves, Helen Mirren, Zac Efron, Eren Yeager, and an anonymous person initially chosen by 'trees.'
In another video titled The Chosen Multiverse Has Opened it was revealed that there exists a Chosen multiverse, housing various alternate versions of The Chosen across multiple parallel realities. During this video, five of these Chosens, including the one from our universe, engaged in a battle, resulting in a tie between our universe's Chosen and another.
In the video Behind the Scenes of Legacy: Betrayal + HUGE Announcement! Shayne asserts that the Board AF: Betrayal Chosen possesses genuine powers, being a true "chosen one." Shayne further reveals that, while The Chosen possesses these powers in every universe, the primary Chosen (who he portrays in all his other Smosh appearances) does not have any powers. Instead, the primary Chosen is merely feigning or convincing himself that he does.
