Siriusopolis is the capital of Sirius and a major location in Serious Sam 2.
Overview
Siriusopolis is perhaps the largest city on the planet Sirius, as well as Mental's former base of operations. It is a massive thriving metropolis and roughly the same size as New York City. The cityscape is dominated by tall skyscrapers, offices and other buildings similar to that of cities on Earth. It has a rather futuristic theme to it, with hovering vehicles and spaceships being the main form of transportation. The city also has an automatic transit system and its own law enforcement to ensure law and order throughout the city.
Military
As Siriusopolis is controlled by Mental's forces, they are tasked with protecting the city from any enemies that enter its territory. Many anti-air defenses have been placed throughout the city to shoot down any enemy aircraft, and large amounts of Orc infantry, accompanied by tougher enemies such as Spider Mechanoids, patrol the city to ensure the safety of the city's citizens.
News broadcasting
Siriusopolis has its own news broadcasting station, GNN Live, with George B. Gnaar as the main spokesperson. He reports whatever usually takes place in the city, like acts of crime or The Alliance's forces invading.
Notable locations
Mental Institution
- Main article: Mental Institution
This is the location of Mental's former residence. It is a massive, pyramid-shaped building. When under attack, the building is equipped with an arsenal of weapons and fleets of attack fighters at its disposal to ward off attackers. It also has a spaceship for use in an emergency, which Mental used to escape the city after he tricked Sam into thinking that he killed him.
Statue of Mental
This grand statue of Mental was dedicated to Mental, who overlooks the entire city. The statue could be found near one of the highways in the city, but it was destroyed by Sam after he crashes an Alliance spaceship into it.
Siriousopolis arena
This arena is where the deadly "Run for Life" tournaments are held, a popular reality TV show watched from across the galaxy. It involves many blood sports, such as contestants having to run through checkpoints within the alotted time limit, or the necklaces on their necks will explode, which kills them. Another challenge involves contestants having to survive against Mental's forces as they make their way through the trial.
Shield generator
This tower is responsible for powering the Sirius Shield, the most powerful force field in the universe. It covers the entire planet of Sirius. The only way to penetrate this shield is by firing the cannon at it from Sirius' moon, Kronor.
Appearances
Serious Sam 2
Serious Sam enters the city in a spacecraft after firing the cannon at the shield on Kronor, which leaves a hole in the shield. There is only enough time for Sam to enter as he attempts to have the Alliance fleet go through before the cannon loses power, destroying several ships in the process. He flies through the city having some fun performing tricks until his ship is damaged after he flies through a narrow building. The ship crashes into Mental's statue and Sam narrowly escapes being caught after the authorities try to search for him.
Meanwhile, Sam makes his way to the shield generator, where some of Mental's forces are waiting for him. He kills them and makes it into a building with more resistance inside. After wiping them all out, an Infantry "Kozak aHa-C64" Attack Helicopter appears, but Sam destroys it, then notices that there are jump pads that connect him to another part of the city. He makes it across the jump pads and is suddenly attacked by hordes of enemies. He goes further until he notices a XM214-A Minigun and a hover bike in the other side of the area. He takes the hover bike and flies to a tower after taking out more enemies.
Once Sam makes it to the tower, he is met with more resistance, but wipes them out as usual. He ventures further into the city into some parks, where more enemies are waiting to stop him. When he's done with the park areas, Sam gets to another area that leads to a warehouse-like building. This area is also under control by Mental's forces, where they constantly come out of the garages. Sam, as usual, clears out all of the garages of enemies.
Sam makes it out of the warehouse and boards a train to the shield generator. After killing more enemies, he enters it, but is caught in a trap before he can shut down the generator. He then is taken prisoner and forced to compete in several blood sports in the Run for Life tournaments. He is able to complete the first game and then is taken back to his cell for the next game. In the next arena, it is split into two events. The first one has Sam find five golden coins while being under attack by Kleer Skeletons and Tank Bio-mechanoids. If he doesn't complete the event within the time limit, he will die.
Sam obtains the coins and makes it to the exit, ready for the next event. This time, Sam has to roll a HAM-Z-rr314 Rollerball through several rings of fire in an obstacle course before the three minute countdown is up. He does two laps while facing more enemies and makes it to the exit before the countdown ends. The next event that follows involves speed trial like the first one, but this time the arena is themed like the planet Kleer with lava pits. Just like the two previous trials, there are checkpoints and enemies ready to attack him.
As soon as Sam completes the arena, the Alliance arrives to rescue him. It turns out they found a way to reactivate the cannon and get past the shield, this time in full force. An Alliance ship comes to pick Sam up and he boards the ship before Mental's forces can get to him. The ship then takes him to the Mental Institution. On the way there, the Alliance come under heavy fire from Mental's forces. Sam's ship is hit, forcing him to bail out seconds before the ship is destroyed. With both sides fighting against each other, Sam battles his way to Mental's hideout until he reaches another transit system, which he uses to take him to the outskirts of the Mental Institution.
Once there, Sam discovers that the area has been rigged with multiple large metal walls that are filled with tough enemies, such as Generals, T-Mechs and Spider Mechanoids. When the big fight is over, Sam makes his way to the Mental Institution, but suddenly it springs to life and starts launching fleets of Fatso Fighters and Seagull Fighters at him, as well as bombarding him with projectiles. Thanks to a handy hover bike nearby, Sam manages to defeat the Mental Institution.
Inside, Sam confronts Mental in person in his throne room to finally end him. Before he can though, Mental tries to tell Sam that he is his father, but Sam finishes him with his Colt Anacondas. It turns out this was all of a facade: Mental wasn't there at all, revealing just a speaker on his chair to distract Sam long enough so he could make his escape.
