Crabs are enemies that appear in Serious Sam's Bogus Detour.
Overview
Crabs are crustaceans that appear to be much larger than their real-life counterparts, most likely as a result of exposure to the mutagenic ooze used by the Orcs. There are two types of Crabs: red and blue.
Appearances
Crabs are commonly found on beaches, often in small to medium-sized groups. Crabs can also spawn from crab eggs, and will continue to spawn from them unless they are destroyed.
Red Crabs appear on Easy to Hard difficulties.
Blue Crabs replace red Crabs on Serious difficulty.
Behavior and skills
Red Crabs will flee from anything that gets too close to them, even the player. If an individual Crab in a group is killed, entire groups of Crabs nearby will flee.
Red Crabs will use their pincers to attack the target, though they do not attack the player directly, as they are programmed to run away from the latter and any enemies when confronted. Blue Crabs will try to directly get close to the target and their attacks deal more damage, which can make swarms of them dangerous.
Crabs give very little experience if the player chooses to kill them. Blue Crabs award more experience than red Crabs when they are killed.
Like the player, other enemies also attack Crabs, both Mental's forces and infected enemies.
Tactics
- Red Crabs are not a threat; even a large group is harmless, as long as the player doesn't get too close to them.
- Red Crabs have very low health and are worth very little experience. Thus, they are not worth killing as they post a very little threat.
- Crabs can serve as a distraction if there are a lot of them in an area where they are many enemies.
- The Sledgehammer and Thompson submachine gun are effective weapons to use against multiple Crabs that are close together.
Trivia
- Crabs reuse the Antaresian Spider sounds from Serious Sam 3: BFE.
