Cory Lee (born Cory Lee Urhahn; November 13, 1984) is a Canadian actress and singer-songwriter best known for her roles in Instant Star and Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Early Life
Cory Lee was born to a Chinese mother and German father in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She attended Lord Byng Secondary School and grew up immersed in a musical environment. At age 15, Lee turned down an offer from Sony Hong Kong to join the short-lived girl group Ris-K. Eager to explore her Chinese roots and see the world, she joined a group called NRG, which performed in Hong Kong in 2002. However, she returned home after the SARS outbreak in China and focused on her solo career.
Career
Lee aligned with Vancouver-based Hipjoint Production and created her debut album, What a Difference a Day Makes. Its flagship single, "The Naughty Song," earned Lee nominations for a 2006 Indie Music Award for Pop Artist of the Year and two Canadian Radio Music Awards.
Her second album, Sinful Innocence, was released through WIDEawake/Universal on May 15, 2007. Featuring production from multi-platinum and 3-time Juno Award winner Perry Alexander and KUYA, Sinful Innocence explored society's "good girl/bad girl" double standards from Lee's independent liberal perspective.
Following Sinful Innocence, Lee released a Remix Collection album featuring hip-hop, reggaeton, and club remixes of "The Naughty Song," "Lover's Holiday," and "Ovaload." On April 19, 2009, a new song called "Turn Me Off (Red Light)" surfaced online. The track was composed by Canadian producer KUYA.
In the summer of 2011, the single "Best Shot" by Cory Lee and Shaggy was released on iTunes. Later that year, Lee released a remix of "Best Shot" and the new single "Fashion Show." The music video was posted on YouTube on Lee's official account. In April 2012, she posted a teaser for her new song, "Cruel Intentions." Two months later, a full-length music video was released.
