Destroyer

The destroyer is an escort ship capable of engaging in anti-submarine warfare, acts as anti-aircraft, and providing shore bombardment to ground units within its 250 kilometer attack range.

The ship is versatile for a multitude of naval expertise, such as securing naval dominance, eradicating aircraft, escorting units overseas, to sinking transportation ships, although they are prone to be less effective at annihilating ground units on water than submarines. They are more expensive to its counterpart, frigates, but cheaper than battleships.

Costs

A Destroyer requires $20,000,000 and 7,500 manpower to be produced, has an upkeep of $250,000, and consumes 2 units of Oil.

Usage

Destroyers are essential for safeguarding naval assets through the open seas and oceans. Unsecured escorts are severely vulnerable by submarines which are not visible, so destroyers are optimal for assisting the task.

They are the most versatile naval unit, as they can destroy submarines and transport boats, damage troops on land that are in-range, and are also cheap. The only vulnerability they have are capital ships, such as battleships, aircraft carriers, enemy destroyers, and artillery.

Unit Modifiers

Work in Progress.

Trivia

  • The destroyer is the first ship to be added in the game, preceding the addition of vessels such as battleships and frigates.
  • In-game, some players may abbreviate destroyers as 'DD', as it is used in real-life naval practices. In other cases, particularly in contemporary navies (where Rise of Nations take place in), destroyers in some modern skins, such as the United States Modern, China Modern, India Modern, and more, can also be abbreviated as 'DDG', which means "guided-missile destroyer".
