X is the main protagonist of the Mega Man X series and is playable in every entry of the series, serving as a Maverick Hunter. He also appears in the Mega Man Zero series as a supporting character.

X is Doctor Thomas Light's final work and the pinnacle of his life-long research, possessing sophisticated behavior adaptation technology.[1] While X is often known as the Reploid who possesses "infinite potential", he is not an actual Reploid but rather the basis for how Reploids are created. He desires everlasting peace in the world but has ended up facing many battles against Mavericks, Sigma, and even a greater threat.

In Rockman / Mega Man X DiVE, X appears as a playable character at launch and is unlocked right from the start, serving as the game's tutorial character.

Tips

  • X's skills are assisted by auto aim and don't lock him in animation, making him one of the most versatile ranged units.
  • Tracking Missile can fly backwards should an enemy jump past you close enough.
  • Although a maximum Charge Shot requires 100% energy, you can still release it as long as you charged it for long enough. The game will show a negative number on the skill cooldown, but it doesn't extend downtime.

Trivia

  • X is the first playable character in the game to feature multiple unique unlockable skins, whereas previous characters with multiple skins only featured recolors.
  • Tracking Missile is a homage to the special weapon gained from Launch Octopus, the Homing Torpedo.[2]
  • X uses 's model for his skills, but if he is using a skin, the buster model changes to correspond with it. Originally, his skills would always switch his buster model to , despite the buster model changing for his select screen animation depending on the skin. This error was fixed on November 25th, where the buster model, if using a skin, no longer switches to when using a skill.
  • X's teleport SFX when the stage starts and ends is from Mega Man X6.
  • Despite being given to the player from the start of the game, it is still possible to receive X from Capsules, resulting in 20 Character Memory Patches.
  • If equipped with both the Command Mission Armor skin and a weapon with a chip equipped, the resulting aura will form around the model of X's scarf even while he is not moving.
