Cairo is the capital of Egypt. Located near the Nile Delta, Cairo was founded in 969 CE. The city is commonly associated with Ancient Egypt due to its location near the ancient cities of Memphis, Giza and Fustat; all of which are situated close to the Great Sphinx and the pyramids of Giza.

With a population of 6.76 million, Cairo is by far the largest city in Egypt. It resides at the center of the largest metropolitan area in Africa and the Arab World.
