Diana to Liko

Diana is a recurring character appearing in Pokémon Horizons: The Series. She is Liko's grandmother.

Appearance

Diana is an elderly woman with black hair that has blue highlights, and light turquoise eyes. She usually wears a dark yellow sweatband around her head, a pair of round gold earrings, a cream yellow ascot, dull red mountain garbs, a black belt around her waist, and dark maroon boots.

As a teenager, she wore a pink crop jacket and shorts, a white undershirt, a red scarf, a red headband, brown gloves and shoes.

As a child, she wore a pink dress with white cuffs and collar, a dark pink headband, white socks, and dark brown shoes.

Personality

Diana is an adventurer who is always young at heart. She is also adaptive and wise even during emergencies. Being carefree and youthful, Diana is often elusive about her whereabouts, even to her own family.

At times, Diana can be temperamental and feisty, such as almost wanting Arcanine to burn Tepen for scamming her, before Liko calms her down.[1]

She occasionally likes to be alone, espeically when reading, and even talking to herself during so.[2]

She's not good with modern technology, hence preferring her Squawkabily to be her courier rather than using a Rotom Phone for communication.[3]

Etymology

Diana's name originates from the Latin and Greek term for divine.

Biography

Past

As a child, Diana discovered a pendent and a journal about Terapagos at her childhood home's attic. Interested in uncovering the mystery behind the pendent and the adventurer Lucius, Diana went on a journey with her Growlithe when she was a teenager. However, as she grew older, she decided to give up on her pursuit on unveiling the mystery when she was in her middle age.[4]

At some point of her journey, she met her friend Tepen, whom she had to save from some Ariados during one of their adventures.[1]

Eventually, Diana entrusted her granddaughter with the mysterious pendant for reasons unknown, hoping that she could find what she wanted on her journey.[5]

Sometime later, Diana's old friend Hamber approached her. However, realizing Hamber had brought some suspicious company with him, Diana broke off her friendship with Hamber, and decided to tell her daughter Lucca on entrusting the Rising Volt Tacklers on protecting Liko.[4]

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

After Liko enrolled in Indigo Academy, a young boy claiming to be her messenger approached her with a letter which stated that she wanted the pendant back, though Liko found it suspicious and refused to give the pendant to the boy, prompting a short chase around the academy.[6]

According to Lucca's Squawkabilly, the elderly woman was currently at an old castle in Galar.[7] After meeting up with Liko, Roy and Friede, Diana recounted how she found the pendant, and was about to give Liko something after Liko asked her about Laqua. However, she was then told that someone had intruded the castle. [4] After buying time for Liko, Roy and Friede to escape, Diana met Hamber again, and she confronted him about why Explorers, who used to be friends with Lucius, were now hounding after Terapagos. She then escaped when Coral and Sidian caused an explosion, and leaped onto the deck of Brave Olivine with her Arcanine. Diana later gave Liko Lucius's journal, and told Liko to find all six of Lucius's Pokémon.[8] She also entrusted Lucius's belt to Liko afterwards. [9]

Diana later took Friede, Liko and Roy to find her old friend Tepen, who claimed himself to be an artifact salesperson. [10] She then confronted Tepen about the tome he sold to her being a counterfeit, and scolded him for having abandoned his dream of adventuring. Through Tepen's Bronzor, Diana revealed that Tepen did use to be an adventurer, and was happy to see Tepen have a change of heart.[1]

When Lucius' Lapras froze the Brave Olivine, Diana ordered her Arcanine to melt the ice that was clogging the ship.[11]

Eventually, Diana decided to part ways with the Rising Volt Tacklers, and she trusted that Friede could continue being a good mentor to Liko. She also gave Liko and Roy some time to spar with her.[3] She later received a farewell party from the Rising Volt Tacklers, and a special video from Dot. She gifted Liko her own journal for Liko to record the Six Heroes and Rakua, and in exchange received a bracelet from Liko. She resumed her journey with Arcanine and Squwakabilly the following day, after berthing at a port.[12]

Diana would meet up with Liko and the Rising Volt Tacklers again. Deducing that the Explorers were after the Laquium, Diana took the group to the Crystal Pool to summon Rystal, one of the founding members of the Explorers. To Diana's surprise, she realized Rystal's baby was named Leila, who was Liko's great-grandmother and Diana's own mother. She and Liko were then even more surprised to realize that Lucius and Rystal were in fact their ancestral blood relatives.[13] After the meeting with Rystal, Diana decided to take her leave again, saying that she still trusts Liko for the latter's own journey.[14]
