Poison is a hazard in a few of the Pikmin games. It first appears in Pikmin 2, returns in Hey! Pikmin, and appears again in Pikmin 4.
Poison appears in the form of fumes emitted by poison emitters or from certain enemies, such as Doodlebugs emitting gas clouds in small bursts. White Pikmin are the only type of Pikmin immune to poison, and are therefore the only type capable of destroying poison emitters. Leaders are unaffected by poison since their spacesuits filter out air.
Pikmin that are poisoned behave similarly to those on fire, and can likewise be immediately rescued from a leader's whistle. If a Pikmin not of the White type is poisoned, they run around in panic while choking. If a Pikmin is poisoned for too long, it dies.
While poison is not a hazard in Pikmin 3, a similar effect is produced by Toady Bloysters and Sputtlefish, as well as another one by the Vehemoth Phosbat. Both types cause Pikmin to panic and run for a few seconds before returning to normal, so the effects do not kill the Pikmin.
