Key

In both Phoenotopia and Phoenotopia: Awakening, keys are primarily used to unlock doors in the specific dungeons that they are found in, and there is usually a small flexibility in the order of which being unlocked. They do not take up Inventory space.

In Phoenotopia

In Phoenotopia, all the keys are pick-ups that would be consumed immediately when Gale comes into contact with an applicable door. Keys do not show up in the inventory slots, and are displayed next to the HUD at the top-left of the screen when the inventory is opened.

Forgotten Forest

There are 5 keys in Forgotten Forest, and 2 of them unlock optional doors:

For the 1st key, defeat the Arc before the Arc cave.
For the 2nd key, head to the bottom-left of the Arc cave.
For the 3rd key, defeat the Plant Dog in the room above the cave exit.
For the 4th key, head below the Zophiel Statue Forgotten Lab near a Big Robot.

Trivia

  • From v1.0.9 of Phoenotopia: Awakening onward, Keys no longer use a separate "key" icon. Instead, they would all share a new icon with Quest Items to better indicate that these items do not take up Inventory space
    • While Crystal Lens was previously labelled as a Key, it is excluded in this page because it is not used directly to unlock any door
