Ceptid is a Category I Kaiju that attacked Manta on January 31, 2019.[1]

Biology

Ceptid is described as one of the most bizarre Kaiju. It walked upright on skeletal legs connected to its body resembling a giant pelvis.[2]

It is capable of reaching extremely high speeds while running and can shed pieces of its skin and flesh to pretend to be taking damage, when in fact none of the external parts of its body matter.[2]

Ceptid is extremely toxic and leaves a rancid blue-green trail when it moves in water, the toxicity is evident in its method of attack, which consists of splitting itself in half and exploding in a highly corrosive acid mist, making it effectively a living acid bomb and earning it the nickname "The Living Sewer".[2]

History

The Living Sewer

Ceptid emerges from the Breach and heads to the tropical shores of Manta, Ecuador, where it finds Romeo Blue, Puma Real, and Diablo Intercept positioned at the Miracle Mile to prevent the creature from making landfall.[2]

The three Jaegers try to stop the Kaiju with ranged attacks, but without success, causing the pilots of Diablo Intercept to decide to advance towards Ceptid and face it in hand-to-hand combat, causing the monster to split its body in half like a zipper and explode in an acidic mist that engulfed Diablo Intercept, destroying the Jaeger and causing the death of its pilots.[2]

Aftermath

Years after the end of the Kaiju War, the PPDC uses a simulation of the battle against Ceptid to train new cadets. In this simulation, 6 cadets control the Jaegers involved in the real mission and must prevent Ceptid from reaching dry land. The Kaiju is invincible in this simulation and can only be won if one of the Jaegers involved sacrifices itself to stop it. If they fail, the Kaiju will run to Guayaquil and explode itself, destroying a quarter of the metropolitan area, killing twenty thousand civilians instantly and condemning another fifteen thousand to a slow and agonizing death for the next few days and weeks, and leaving many others scarred, blinded and crippled by permanent lung disorders.

This simulation serves to teach cadets that often the only way to defeat a Kaiju and protect thousands of lives is through self-sacrifice.[3]

Trivia

  • Although first mentioned in Pacific Rim Uprising: Ascension, Ceptid's attack date was only revealed in the Mechapedia.
  • The combat simulation against Ceptid in Ascension indicates that the Kaiju aimed to reach Guayaquil and detonate itself in the city.[2]
