BREAKTIME

SPOILER WARNING
This article contains spoilers of important plot details regarding the plotline of OMORI.

Do you want to play cards with your friends?
— BREAKTIME

BREAKTIME is a game mechanic featured in OMORI. BREAKTIME events can be initiated in the locations of both HEADSPACE and FARAWAY TOWN, mostly through interacting with sparkles on a specific object. These lead to short sequences that usually have no impact gameplay-wise.

OVERVIEW

Interacting with the breaktime events usually leads to a short sequence featuring OMORI/SUNNY and his friends spending time together. These events typically have no effect gameplay-wise, but some events (in HEADSPACE) can restore the group's HEART and JUICE. Note some of these events can be done without interacting with a sparkling object or speech bubble.

For information regarding the picnic locations shown throughout the game, see the PICNICS page.

LOCATIONS

HEADSPACE

Location Event Requirements

WHITE SPACE
OMORI will sit down in place and remain idle unless the player moves him again. This can happen in any spot within WHITE SPACE, as long as OMORI remains still. If the player does not move or interact with anything there for two minutes, this will trigger the short OMORI breaktime event.

NEIGHBOR'S ROOM
OMORI and his friends sit down together in the room to play a game of cards. After about 90 seconds, they accidentally knock over the cards and start over. Interacting with the sparkle hovering over the scattered cards.

NORTH COAST
The group will decide to build sandcastles or swim through the waters. The sandcastle designs can vary randomly when doing the sequence repeatedly. Interacting with the sparkling bucket and shovel. Cannot be done during the NORTH LAKE segment with MARI or KEL.

PINWHEEL FOREST
OMORI and his friends will go fly their kites of differing appearances. Some of the kites resemble characters such as the BIG YELLOW CAT or ORANGE JOE. Available after defeating KITE KID and KID'S KITE. Interacting with the sparkling kite right next to KITE KID.

FROZEN LAKE
A random member of the team fishes, while the others wait on the bridge. There is a slight chance of obtaining nothing, or creatures and objects that are thrown back to the lake. Only a few items can be kept. Interacting with the fishing rod near one of the holes of the frozen lake.

JUNKYARD
The group decides to relax on a large couch, watching the starry sky of HEADSPACE and the large glowing moon. The first time doing this event, the group has a dialogue together. Initiated only if the group interacts with the text bubble hovering over the couch. This is also located next to one of the JOKE BOARDS.

RAIN TOWN
OMORI will plant himself on one of the vegetable patches, and doing so leads to a sequence where the monochrome boy becomes a potato himself. Going near the leftmost center field in an empty patch as solely OMORI results in him sitting down and becoming a potato after about nine seconds.

SPROUT MOLE VILLAGE
OMORI and his friends end up exercising on one of the nearby treadmills at the bottom of the village. Over time, HERO becomes exhausted and stops exercising to catch his breath. Available after turning the power back on in the village. Interacting with the sparkling empty treadmill.

THE ROYAL THEATER
The group watches one of the eleven SWEETHEART movies presented in her ROYAL THEATER. Note that watching all eleven is required to get the "Everyone's a critic" achievement. Interacting with the sparkling tea set in the middle of the room.

SWEETHEART'S GARDEN
AUBREY and HERO decide to have a small tea party while OMORI and KEL sit themselves out on one of the nearby benches. Interacting with the sparkling set of tea supplies.

LAST RESORT
OMORI and his friends decide to play in the empty ball pit, only to give unamused looks upon realizing there's nothing fun about this attraction. Interacting with the sparkling ball pit on the fourth floor of the casino.

CLUB SANDWICH
The group decides to lounge at CLUB SANDWICH, drinking beverages while having a good time together. In each CLUB SANDWICH, doing this for the first time will grant a permanent 5 max JUICE boost for all party members. Interacting with the sparkling beverage on the table.

MUSTARD SUB
The group decides to dine out while listening to the background music playing in DEEP WELL's local cafe zone. Interacting with the delicious set of food on one of the tables.

SNOWGLOBE MOUNTAIN
The group decides to huddle up near an abandoned campfire, trying to keep themselves warm in the chilly forest leading up to the mountain. There is a 20% chance the group sits together instead of sitting around the campfire. Interacting with the sparkling campfire in the southwest area of the snow field.

FARAWAY TOWN

Most FARAWAY TOWN breaktime events can be initiated once AUBREY joins SUNNY's group on ONE DAY LEFT of the SUNNY ROUTE. From there, the group can do certain events reminiscent of the good old days of their childhood.

Location Event Requirements

KEL'S HOUSE
SUNNY and HERO watch KEL play fetch with HECTOR. Does not have any special dialogue. Interacting with the sparkling doghouse next to KEL and HERO's house.

FARAWAY PARK
SUNNY and AUBREY decide to relax on the swingset while KEL and HERO converse in the background. The first time doing this event, AUBREY has a conversation with SUNNY. Interacting with the sparkling swingset located to the west of the red picnic basket at the park.

HOBBEEZ
The group decides to read a comic SUNNY pulled out from a nearby bookshelf. After a short time, AUBREY punches KEL away when he starts laughing hysterically at something. Does not have any special dialogue. Interacting with the bottom left sparkling bookshelf inside the store.

GINO'S PIZZA
SUNNY and his friends sit down to eat pizza at one of the tables until KEL eats the whole pizza himself. Does not have any special dialogue. Interacting with the northeast sparkling table inside the restaurant.

KEL AND HERO's HOUSE
SUNNY decides to play video games while his friends cheer on for him. Does not have any special dialogue. Interacting with the sparkling video game console in KEL and HERO's room.

HANGOUT SPOT
The group rests at the blue picnic, resembling the picnic sequences often shown in HEADSPACE. The first time doing this event, the group has a dialogue together. Interacting with the blue picnic basket near the lake's shore and boardwalk.

FARAWAY CEMETERY
The group can have their last picnic with MARI. Doing this will also yield the "When she was here..." achievement. Only available after bringing FLOWERS to MARI's grave. It can only be done once.

EVENTS

Junkyard (Breaktime)
KEL
The Moon looks gigantic from here! This is the most beautiful
place I've ever seen!
AUBREY
But there's so much litter around...
How can you say it's beautiful?
KEL
AUBREY, AUBREY... Don't be such a wet blanket. Look at
things on the bright side!
KEL
You know what I always say...
"You just gotta wake up and smell the roses!"
AUBREY
You don't always say that!
Faraway Park (Breaktime)
AUBREY
Hey, SUNNY... Sorry, I was so mean to you before.
AUBREY
I think seeing you just caught me by surprise... though I guess that's a pretty crappy excuse.
AUBREY
I hope you've been doing okay and stuff... I'm sure everything was really hard for you to deal with.
AUBREY
Sometimes I think I was the one that should have been there for you.
AUBREY
I don't know if we'll really ever get over MARI's death... but it's okay to take it slow.
AUBREY
To allow yourself to feel every emotion... and to have patience.
AUBREY
A-Anyway, I just want you to know... that I still care about you and stuff.
AUBREY
I've been thinking about this since I saw you, but I think you're looking a little pale... and kind of thin, too.
AUBREY
After you move, promise me you'll go outside more often, okay?
Hangout Spot (Breaktime)
KEL
Hey, AUBREY!
AUBREY
What do you want, KEL?
KEL
I've been thinking... We get into fights all the time, huh?
AUBREY
Yeah, we do...
KEL
But even after everything, we're still friends, right?
AUBREY
Yeah... I guess we are...
KEL
Huh... Isn't that weird?
AUBREY
Maybe... I don't know...
HERO
Heh heh... Oh, you two... That just means that you two are really comfortable around each other.
HERO
I'm a little jealous you two can be so candid even after all this time. I think that's something really special.
KEL
Really? I was just about to say that I find it kind of annoying...
AUBREY
... Ugh... you're such an idiot.

TRIVIA

  • Some breaktime events in FARAWAY TOWN have special dialogue depending on when they are activated:
    • FARAWAY PARK: When doing the swingset event for the first time, a short cutscene will play out. AUBREY apologizes to SUNNY for her previous actions while reflecting on them. AUBREY also notes that she still cares about SUNNY's well-being and asks him to go outside more often.
    • HANGOUT SPOT: When doing the picnic event for the first time, a short cutscene will play out where KEL and AUBREY discuss that despite their constant fights nowadays, they still remain good friends.
  • The potato event in RAIN TOWN is a direct reference of one of OMOCAT's original OMORIBOY comics, titled "life would be so much better if I didn't look like a potato."
    • The WHITE SPACE breaktime is referred to as WS Potato in the game's data, which is possibly another reference to the comic.
  • If the party are still wearing the SPROUT MOLE MASKS, AUBREY and HERO will take their mask off and put them on the table during the breaktime event within SWEETHEART'S GARDEN.
  • There was a glitch that GINO will block HERO's way during the GINO'S BREAKTIME event when he has left the arcade machine. The glitch has been fixed in the evening section but can still be triggered at morning.
  • There was originally a 10% chance that a GATOR GUY would appear in the ball pit with the party when doing the LAST RESORT breaktime event. It was scrapped for unknown reasons.
  • The prompt used for the picnic event at FARAWAY CEMETERY mirrors the one used for HEADSPACE's picnics.
    • HEADSPACE: "Do you want to have a picnic with your friends?"
    • FARAWAY CEMETERY: "Do you want to have a picnic with MARI?"
