ENTWURF is the second single album by NMIXX. It was released on September 19, 2022 and contains four tracks, with the song "DICE" serving as its title track.

The physical album comes in nine versions: "Light", Limited and seven-member individual Jewel Case versions.

In German, 'entwurf' means "design, sketch or blueprint".

Pulled by a strange magnetic force, NMIXX somehow broke through the walls of the world and discovered the existence of a whole new world. The girls set foot into a mystical world where everything they IMAGINE becomes REALITY. But soon, a giant whirlwind appears in front of them as the girls face the first real obstacle of their wild journey.

Every human being lives their life in fear. The fear and anxiety that the girls themselves created were too powerful. The gigantic shadows and swirling waves of chaotic thoughts, derived from the deepest depths of their subconsciousness, began to threaten NMIXX.

In a game-like journey, the girls who got the chance to expand their own world, ‘MIXX’, eventually realize a fact that would change their lives forever. The fact that the DICE has already been thrown, and the power to make their fate lies within their own hands.

Through the life-changing experiences they have went through during their journey towards ‘MIXXTOPIA’ with expanding their ‘MIXX’, the girls finally learn how to fully accept and realize their own emotions (COOL (Your Rainbow)) and understand the importance of having faith in their own choices. Now, the fate of NMIXX is in the hands of the girls.

Now, the most important question of all. Does that huge shadow that threatens you come from the ‘outside’? Or, does it come from ‘within you’?

In the New Frontier series, NMIXX willingly throw their selves into the adventures, even knowing that the journey will be full of trials and tribulations. And throughout their journey, they were able to create their own set of rules. The girls will now continue to find the meaning of existence and make countless decisions under their own names. Then, the girls will reach out their hands toward you so that you can face your own fears and break through them, leading you to a ‘WONDERFUL NEW WORLD’ that lies over the rainbow.

Both ‘DICE’ and ‘COOL (Your Rainbow)’ were produced by ARMADILLO, a promising up-and-comer in the K-Pop scene who has worked with TWICE, Stray Kids, DAVICHI, and 2am.

Background

On August 22, 2022, NMIXX announced their comeback with their second single album, ENTWURF through a teaser poster.[1]

On September 1, a trailer video, 'NMIXX Rules of Play NMIXX ADVENTURE', was posted on the group's social media accounts.[2] The first set of concept photos for Sullyoon, Bae, and Kyujin were released on September 5[3] and for Haewon, Lily, Jinni, and Jiwoo on September 6.[4] The group was released on September 7th.[5] The second set of concept photos for Sullyoon, Bae, and Kyujin were released on September 8[6] and for Haewon, Lily, Jinni, and Jiwoo on September 9.[7][8][9][10] On September 10th, the group concept photo was also posted.[11] The third and final set of concept photos for Sullyoon, Bae, and Kyujin were released on September 12.[12][13][14] and for Haewon, Lily, Jinni, and Jiwoo on September 13.[15][16][17][18] The group photo was posted on September 14th.[19]

Composition

"DICE" is described as NMIXX's genre 'MIXX POP' which is a genre that mixes the hip hop genre with the jazz sound, dreamy trap, pop, and an addictive beat. The chorus is stated to be addicted that is based on the rhythmical brass. The lyrics talk about comparing the adventure NMIXX of trying to move past the enemy's interference to a game. A secret warning will help them to not fall in the trap that makes the person dizzy. The game played creates a lot of tension as they move forward and is not easy.[20]

"COOL (Your rainbow)" is described as a pop ballad genre song. The song features a 808 base alongside a trap beat, dreamy brass, and classical strings. NMIXX's unique tone shows throughout the song. The lyrics compares the situation of recognizing and collecting their emotions and realizes that the certain emotions that are deemed not cool are also precious emotions. It's simply collecting the emotions are they move forward with a new light as the dark days turn to rainbows.[20]

Promotions

On September 16, a showcase was held for the album release at the Yes24 Live Hall in Seoul, South Korea. During the showcase, the music video for "DICE" was shown as well as a live performance from NMIXX.[21]

Commercial performance

Hanteo reported that ENTWURF sold 250,661 copies in its first day of release. The album broke NMIXX's previous first week sales in one day as AD MARE sold 227,399 copies in a week.[22] In total, the album sold 442,207 copies in the first week.[23]

Circle chart reported that ENTWURF sold 483,736 copies during the week of September 18 - September 24.[24] In total for the month of September, the album sold 486,101 copies.[25]

On November 10, ENTWURF received a 2x platinum certification for selling over 500,000 copies on Circle Chart.[26]
