Episode 28

I'm The Building Owner (Korean: 건물주입니다, RR: geonmuljuimnida) is the twenty-eighth episode of The S-Ranks That I Raised webtoon.

Han Yoojin wraps up the negotiations with the guild leaders, then speaks to Yoo Myeongwoo about training to obtain a special skill. Meanwhile, Seok Hayan is approached by a strange presence.

Summary

Yoojin thinks fondly about how Yoohyun was a well-behaved child, but is bewildered when the guild leaders start laughing at him. They cackle about how Yoohyun pretends to be good in front of his brother, and Yoojin irately rises to his defense, with the guild leaders humoring him as everyone calms down. Annoyed, Yoojin takes the contract draft Moon Hyuna offers him and is surprised by the mention of a building. The leaders explain that Seok Simyeong negotiated for a facility to be constructed for the purposes of Yoojin's monster rearing, sponsored by the guilds and Association. The contract terms cover Yoojin's ownership of the building and the guilds' protection in exchange for trained kiseungsu.

The guild leaders support the construction of the rearing facility

Yoojin signs the contract, immensely excited at the thought of owning a building with an ideal location and under the protection of the major guilds; the thought of bringing Yoo Myeongwoo and Seok Hayan to set up shop in the building makes him even more pleased. The guild leaders startle him out of his happy fantasizing when they get up to leave; Sung Hyunjae bids goodbye, promising to remember the exception condition. Once everyone has left, Yoohyun tells Yoojin not to worry about what the others said about his behavior, but Yoojin assures him he isn't worried anyway. Praising Peace for behaving well, Yoojin heads back home, where he finds Myeongwoo having cooked up a feast.

Myeongwoo is distraught by Yoojin's request for him to pack

As he eats, Yoojin tells Myeongwoo to prepare to move out; he's about to describe their new home in the rearing facility. However, Myeongwoo misunderstands and believes Yoojin's telling him to leave because of his lacking ability, since he can't measure up to Yoojin's apparent talents. Aware that his knowledge of the pre-regression timeline gives him an edge, Yoojin tries to reassure Myeongwoo. To avoid driving him off by being too direct, Yoojin acts coy and secretive to draw Myeongwoo's attention; once he has it, he claims to have learned of a training drill from Seok Hayan that'll allow Myeongwoo to gain a special skill. While he continues to tell him about the "drill", Seok Hayan is working on research in an out-of-the-way computer room; she doesn't notice when an ominous shadow looms over the windows.[1]

Novel & webtoon differences

  • The snapshots of Yoohyun's childhood are webtoon-original.
  • Yoohyun doesn't try to cut the guild leaders off when they point out that he's usually ill-mannered, like he does in the novel;[2] Yoojin is the only one to verbally defend him.
  • Since Yoojin doesn't talk with Seok Simyeong before meeting with the guild leaders,[3] like he does in the novel,[4] the guild leaders are the ones who pass on Seok Simyeong's request for a building that Yoojin can work out of, instead of Seok Simyeong himself telling Yoojin about it.
  • Yoojin brushes off Yoohyun's attempts at reassurance quicker in the webtoon, and they don't discuss the exception condition Yoojin posed and international affairs, among other things.[5]
  • Myeongwoo's breakdown is triggered by Yoojin letting him know they're moving out, rather than his own unremarkable performance during their first dungeon raid, as in the novel. While consoling him, Yoojin doesn't claim he didn't get a level 10 skill, either.[6]
  • The ending scene where the Dokkaebi looms over Seok Hayan is webtoon-original; in the novel, the Dokkaebi isn't depicted trailing her beforehand, simply appearing once in front of her and Yoojin.[7]

Trivia

  • Yoojin's success fantasy shows him dressed in a suit and bow tie, raising a glass of wine while smiling. His pose is a direct reference to the 2013 film The Great Gatsby.
