Episode 11

Break Through The Shell (Korean: 알을 깨고, RR: areul kkaego) is the eleventh episode of The S-Ranks That I Raised webtoon.

Han Yoojin fights off the tentacle monster with the help of a few other high-rankers.

Summary

At Yoojin's command, Kim Sunghan uses Shield Of Earth and creates a large sphere of earth to trap the tentacle monster. Once it's properly sealed, Yoojin speeds forward, planning on using a Black Poison Fog Sphere he purchased earlier at the Hunter Mall to flood the sphere with poison and kill the monster. However, he finds the sphere empty; as he wonders where it's gone, the monster sneaks up behind him, having escaped through the sewers, and hauls him off his feet with a tentacle. Yoojin quickly realizes what happened, but is unable to break free, when Bak Yerim appears and strikes the monster with an improvised weapon.

The strikes are enough to make it let go of him, and Yoojin and Yerim immediately run away, the monster chasing after them. Yoojin shouts at her for staying even though she's Unawakened, and Yerim retorts that as an F-rank, he's not much better, either. Yoojin says that he's older and an Awakened person, while Yerim is still young. Yerim unexpectedly agrees and explains that she needs more power so that she doesn't have to rely on others to keep her safe. She reminds Yoojin that he himself told her she could be strong, and orders him to make good on his words. With the monster about to attack, Yoojin gives him and triggers her Awakening.

Kim Sunghan, chasing after the monster, catches up just in time to see the newly-Awakened S-rank Yerim freezing the monster's tentacles solid with Cold Sigh. She gets distracted by her incredible abilities, but her strength means her startled, haphazard attacks still do disturbingly serious damage to the monster, much to her delight and to Yoojin and Kim Sunghan's shock. Yoojin scolds her for her recklessness, but Yerim is too excited to be put out, and Yoojin marvels at how much happier and lighthearted she seems in comparison to her pre-regression self. Right as he notes her lack of a proper wide-area attack skill, Han Yoohyun appears and effortlessly torches the tentacle monster, destroying it in an instant. As the monster disintegrates into ash, Yoohyun looks up and meets Yerim's eyes.^[1]

Novel & webtoon differences

• This episode's plot is webtoon-only; a Myeongdong dungeon break was not included in the novel.
• Yoojin has an opportunity to use the Black Poison Fog Spheres, while in the novel, they were confiscated by Yoohyun before Yoojin ever went looking for Yerim, and he never got to use them.^[2]
• In the novel, Yoojin signs a contract with Yerim before he Awakens her;^[3] in the webtoon, he Awakens her without first signing.
• Yoohyun meets Yerim outside of Haeyeon Guild as a fellow Hunter instead of as her new guild leader.^[4]
• Yerim's first monster fight is during a dungeon break instead of during novice Hunter training at Haeyeon.^[5]
