Changkey

Changkey (チャンキー Chankī), localized as Tackle Fire in some English sources, is a small robot from the original Mega Man series that is covered by flames and has large black eyes with red pupils. It appears by itself or is spawned by other enemies.

Appearances

Mega Man

The Changkeys appear in Fire Man's Stage only in Mega Man. They rise up from the lava in a column of 3, after they reach beyond the sky limit, they rain down slowly towards Mega Man, one usually not going towards him. They are easy to kill with the Mega Buster, but they can be dangerous when climbing ladders.

Mega Man Powered Up

Changkeys appear in Fire Man's Stage and Oil Man's Stage in Mega Man Powered Up! They appear rising from the lava as they did in the original Mega Man, but now there is only one that rises from the lava. The Changkey Makers also make an appearance in both Fire Man's and Oil Man's Stage and they do the exact same thing as their original, but the Changkeys thrown can light the oil on fire. In Hard Mode, they bounce along the ground in hopes of hitting Mega Man but they still go down in one hit.

Mega Man 2

Changkey appears as a projectile from the enemy Changkey Maker, which creates and throws them from its head. The Changkey itself keeps the design from the original game, and it can be killed in air with the Mega Buster, as it does act as a separate entity. It appears in Quick Man's Stage only and seems to be the source of light in the dark rooms rather than the Changkey Maker itself.

Mega Man 9

Changkey appears as part of the Changkey Dragon, and are much larger than their original counterparts. They now fly from the Changkey Dragon's mouth onto the ground, where they split into 2, 1 staying where it was, and the other racing towards Mega Man. These Changkeys are invincible to almost every weapon, but they can be sucked in by the Black Hole Bomb or blown away by Tornado Blow.

Mega Man 10

Changkeys appear in Solar Man's Stage, Wily Castle Stage 4, and Special Stage 1, where four of them fly in parabolic arcs from one turret to another and back. They take 3 hits from the Mega Buster to kill, but Water Shield is much better at killing them. The Changkey "turrets" can fire them from any direction, horizontal or vertical, and they are technically terrain so absolutely nothing can affect them.

Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge

Changkey in Mega Man Dr. Wily's Revenge

Changkey appears in Fire Man's stage, where they are invincible and just appear falling into lava.

They also appear as projectiles from Changkey Maker.

Mega Man: The Wily Wars

Changkey appears in the first stage of Wily Tower.

Changkey R (チャンキーR Chankī R) is a revised version of Changkey. Not much has changed about it compared to its first appearance, with three of them appearing from a fiery pit and falling. They only appear in one section from the Opening Stage of Mega Man & Bass.

Changkey (Mega Man Network Transmission)

Changkey appears as a virus in Mega Man Network Transmission. They only show up in the area "Net on Fire." When they shoot up from the lava, they float down and towards their target.

Trivia

  • Changkey was named after the nickname of a Capcom employee.[1]
  • Changkey is similar to the Lava Bubble from the Mario universe as both are fireball-like enemies that pop up and down from lava-filled pits.
