Cannon Ball, known as Hougan (ホウガン lit. "Cannonball") in Japan, is a Battle Chip in the Mega Man Battle Network series that is mainly obtained by defeating viruses from the HardHead family. It was named Howitzer in the first Mega Man Battle Network game, and is abbreviated as CannBall in other games, except for Mega Man Battle Network 4, where it is simply named Ball. Cannon Ball's rarity was four stars out of five stars in the first two games, but later its rarity went down to three stars, and is two stars in Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge.
Description
When the Battle Chip is used by a NetNavi, the NetNavi throws a black ball with an obtuse angle three squares ahead. If the ball contacts to the opponent, the target gets 80-150 damage, depending on the game. However, if the ball is thrown to a panel, the panel gets broken and causes no damage.
In Mega Man Battle Network 2, Mega Man Network Transmission and Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge, Cannon Ball has a weaker version named Wrecker, known as Tekkyuu (テッキュウ "Wrecking Ball") in Japan. Mega Man Network Transmission also has a stronger version named Hammer (ハンマー).
In Mega Man Battle Network 3 Cannon Ball has an Aqua and a Fire element version: Ice Ball (コオリホウガン Koori Hougan) and Lava Ball (ヨウガンホウガン Yougan Hougan). They cause less damage than the normal version, except when used against the element weak to them. Instead of breaking a panel, Ice Ball will freeze the panel it hits, and Lava Ball will create a lava panel.
In Rockman.EXE 4.5 Real Operation and toy versions of the Advanced PET and Progress PET, Cannon Ball has a variation named Cannon Ball Mode[1] (ホウガンモード Hougan Mode) that allows the NetNavi to throw several Cannon Balls for a limited time.
